I give Kiffin credit.
He is doing more with less.
And he might just win the conference title next year, with a little luck.
Not many LSU fans think we will contend.
Over the long haul, I suspect LSU has a better product to put on the field year in and out, but what Kiffin is doing bears appreciation and scrutiny.

What’s the obsession with Ole Miss?

Well we don’t have an OC and no-one knows what our defensive staff will look like next year. Kinda hard to recruit with so much in flux.

I think what Kiffin and Ole Miss is building is a championship caliber team quickly. Championship teams lead to attracting the best players which can really help for the future. The team in 2019 proved that Joe Burrow (a transfer) is the right answer. Many comments seemed to point to the fact that the HS players are the answer, however HS players can transfer out of LSU.

Kelly feels the right path is recruiting HS players, however he seems to be failing in recruiting the cream of the HS players.

Most active money spending team in CFB. Oregon is close behind.

BK traditional ie pre portal recruiting method on the surface makes sense to me. You get talent develop the player and you have a number of years eligibility for that to happen. Also, you are banking on player loyalty. Now the judicial system has stepped in and says players have unlimited transfers with no waiting period. I am afraid the free agency model is going to influence players to choose the $ not the college. Could be wrong but Money talks and bull shite walks. just saying.

Honestly by QB recent history we are 1 yr away. It took Burrow until year 2 to click and it took Daniels year 2 to click. I expect the same with Nuss and better chemistry with WRs in year 2. So yeap we are another year away.

While I agree with you, he said the exact same thing last year. In fact, many people pointed to that statement when defending why we were struggling this year. You can't say "one year away" every year.

build out of high school instead of one and done guys.
Transfer guys have won 2 heismans at LSU in the past 4 years.

We had 1 in the previous 126

Let's not bang on transfers

Portal players aren’t necessarily the top players. Getting portal players to fill positions of need are functions of attrition. It’s not indicative of being a good or bad team. Look at the portal rankings from last year. Some good teams, some mediocre teams. The top 10 last year had Colorado (1st), auburn, ucla, usc, and Miami in it. It’s not something to melt over. The best players in the country generally speaking do come from high school. The biggest additions to success from the portal seems to be qb’s.

Will they have a great year? Chemistry and team work is just as important as physical talent and you can’t have success with out both. Hard to build chemistry with one year mercenaries. They may just have an incredible year, it also might blow up in their face. It will be interesting to see how it all works out. If it works others may follow the same path.

TD is not taking this Ole Miss thing well, guess the young folk will finally learn this is a bonified rivalry. 2-2 of the last 4, huge game in BR in 2024

Playing for one year instead of building their team the right way.

OM is giving more importance to the portal than hs recruiting , which is the 9ppoosite of LSU

This is true, but what they are doing and what Colorado is doing is totally different. They aren't really "building" their team from the portal. They just went 10-2 and are adding pieces. Could this hurt them in 2027, sure. But they are going all in for next year.

I hope you and Kelly are right. It could also be the case that in the era of NIL and Transfer portal you can't build with highschoolers because they aren't patient enough to stick around and about the time they are ready they hit the portal and leave.

What A&M did going into the ‘22 season, just through the portal and not with HS kids. Lane is in perpetual “win now” mode and is hiring one-year players to finish a season with at best 10 wins. OM ceiling isn’t as high as LSU’s, Bama’s, or UGA’s

It is not just Brian Kelly with this strategy. Most teams aren't completely overhauling their rosters with the transfer portal. It is weird that so many people want LSU to be that team...and literally obsessing over it to the point of multiple threads every time a transfer with no connection to LSU signs somewhere else.

And it isn't like Kelly has ignored the portal. He brought in back to back top 3 portal classes to get the roster numbers back up.

we’ll see how this approach works for OM. Are LSU fans willing to sacrifice HS recruiting for top tier portal recruits though?
