I wouldn’t consider this the greatest LSU play because the play itself wasn’t a scoring play, but one of my personal favorites is Burrow scrambling in the backfield under very tight pressure, making one UGA defender miss twice, then connecting with Jefferson for a huge gain downfield. I feel like that play stamped Burrow’s Heisman in stone. If I remember right, it was already starting to get out of hand for UGA at that point in the SEC Championship game.

It's very tough to pick between the Billy Cannon punt return, the Bluegrass miracle and the outstanding interception by Eric Reed vs. Alabama, taking it away from the Bama receiver at the goal line.

Another favorite of mine came at a crucial time vs. Ole Miss. Chad Lavalais displays his strength as he pushes the Rebels center back enough so that Eli Manning falls down for a loss. It was an important play late in that game.

The onside kick against auburn in 2001 I think deserves to be mentioned.

I was with a group of guys on a golf trip at Perdido Key. We were listening to the game on the radio while playing at Kiva Dunes. We switched the radio off in disgust when it appeared an LSU loss to Kentucky was imminent. So we had no idea how the game ended. While unloading our clubs in the parking lot an Auburn fan said “How about that LSU game?” We thought he was giving us a hard time, We went inside the clubhouse for drinks and everyone was talking about the ending but we just couldn’t believe it until we saw the game highlights on the clubhouse TV. The drinks flowed more freely after that.

I was listening to the radio broadcast over the Internet (which was pretty dicey in 2004) because JP had a doubleheader and we were stuck with an Arkansas game that was a blowout. I’ll never forget hearing Hawthorn start to lose his mind, followed by “Jack Hunt.” Good times.

I wouldn’t call that play the single greatest because that was definitely a mediocre team, but it was memorable.

While I think the Cannon punt return was the greatest single play and probably no other play has been so much a part of the lore of Tiger football, the Jones to Davis TD is up there. I was there too. From the N. Endzone we couldn't tell if Davis caught the ball in or out of bounds, but then we saw the refs signal and the crowd erupted with a truly deafening roar. It was a great ending to a game where for more than 3 quarters the Tigers seemed to play uninspired ball. Then the last drive started and it was electric.

I’d say Maulk to Green because it basically won a NC for Saban. They would not have made the game without that win.

3rd and 17 was similar, but I think LSU was ahead at the time.

That was a great one, and there are a whole lot more like that - the fourth down conversions against Tebow’s Gators, for example.

But when you rank the plays according to these three variables it becomes obvious which play stands alone:
1. The improbability of the play itself; I refer to the down and distance. The Bluegrass Miracle would be a 10 out of 10, but the Earthquake play is about a 3 out of 10.
2. The National Championship implications. Third and 17 against Texas, and Clyde’s fingertip catch and run against Bama, are maybe 8’s, while the Bluegrass Miracle is a 1.
3. The athleticism or elegance displayed to make the play. Jarvis Landry’s two game winning catches against Arkansas are 10’s; The over the shoulder fake FG against Spurrier’s USC was about an 8, just because it was so cool.

Cannon’s run ranks as a 9 on improbability, a 10 on National Title Implications (maybe a 9 if you want to reserve 10 for a play that actually decides the title), and a 10 on sheer athleticism. I can’t think of another play that would rank with that.

Is there anyway to say for sure. Cannon, Bluegrass, Flynn to Byrd, over the shoulder fake field goal, Burrow on the scramble to Jefferson in the SECCG...

Cannon’s run against Ole Miss is the play most shown nationally on TV ever. It was shown off and on for 10-12 years. Other great play but not noted anywhere was TM strip of the punted ball and picking it up and running it in for a TD. That set the tone for that game.

Obvious ones aside, I favor 2007 final play vs Auburn (Demetrius Byrd).

Lost couple weeks of my life on it and then one more after realizing how much of a dumb azz of clock mgr Coach Miles was…

Flynn to Byrd

I was watching this game at a bar in New Orleans with my now wife and 2 friends. After that play, the guy in front of me took his wife’s bra off and wrapped it around his head. The entire bar was going wild. One of my favorite memories, and the call by Mike Patrick was spot on! He and Todd Blackledge were the best in prime time.

Flynn to Byrd at 0:38 mark

Cade York's foggy 57-yard game winner in Gainesville. The fans were predominantly made out of cardboard and after the kick, all I could hear was myself and about three other LSU fans clapping and cheering. It was really eerie! I live in Florida, in the heart of Gator country, so that game saved the season for me. It was also the only game I was able to attend in person last year.
