LSU has been playing night games even earlier than the 50s (since 1931).

For 20 years or so LSU and A&M played in Baton Rouge every year. The Aggie band always marched at halftime.

In the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, there is a letter on display written by an anonymous student and circulated on the Ole Miss campus in October of the year James Meredith enrolled at Ole Miss. The letter called for protests against his enrollment, and ended with “Go to hell, LSU.” I have to say, I laughed out loud when I saw it. Great museum, by the way. I’ve also met James Meredith. Nice guy.

And if being a pro is being paid for your time and skill, then under the NIL regime, there are lot pro players in college football. College football is no longer an amateur sport.
And there is no substantial difference between the 5th year players who didn’t sign a pro contract and those who did, but never played pro balI. I think college athletics now is a complete mess, but there is a lot of hypocrisy from the NCAA and the SEC. If you are going to give players a fifth year, do it fairly, not based on a technicality. Those that signed had been led to believe they didn’t have a fifth year.

And an Ole Miss fan to boot. He was a ref for high school games in Mississippi. Apparently couldn’t get a ticket, so he went back to his car, got his uniform and walked in through the gate the refs used.

Deservedly so.

I simply put in “Texas Bowl 2025” into the inquiry box to see what time the game is. I kid you not, here is what AI responded:

Of course Texas was begging to join the hayseed SEC to try to regain some actual relevance in college football.

None of them had connections to Louisiana before coming to LSU.

A friendly correction: Louisiana was founded as a French colony before 1719, 1699 to be exact. New Orleans was founded in 1718. The town of Natchitoches was founded in 1714.
It was not founded as a penal colony.

Professors who actually understand what their job is would not be discouraged from working at a university that expects teachers to comply with standards for how to conduct classroom teaching. There are ways to discuss controversial subjects without being a jerk and insisting students agree with the professor or face being banned from class. That isn’t what an academic freedom is about. But I would hope that professors like the one who was fired would be discouraged from working at universities in Texas and elsewhere. They shouldn’t be teaching.
As a professor, I do expect my students to be respectful to me and to each other, and I, likewise, am respectful of them. Students are free to form their own opinions. I do want them to know why they have formed the opinions they have,
