I always hate when people try to rank players all time but he has to be up there. I admit I didn’t pay a lot of attention before I was born but since I’ve been alive I don’t know who else you would pick?

If you’re too young to have seen him at LSU go watch his games here on YouTube, you won’t be disappointed. When he was winning titles in LA he was 340-360lbs, at LSU he was between 286 and 294lbs, he could run and move like nobody else anywhere near his size. It was truly amazing to witness.

Cookie Man was pretty good. Although not sure he played center or forward.

But yes the Best was Shaq. He was immature at LSU or LSU would have won 2 NC with him.

I think Petit played center at LSU, but I could be wrong. He was pretty good too.

It's been said more than once that Stanley Roberts was better than Shaq in the beginning at LSU. Shaq was rough. He got coached up heavily in the off seasons by some of the best on footwork and more footwork! Having twin 7 footers with Chris Jackson at point guard with Vernel Singleton at forward and one more?(I just don't remember the name) was a damn show! Dale didn't win big with that talent and it pretty well said Dale wasn't going to win big.

Yes...but here is a very good article from 2002 about Shaq and Stanley

LINK

The one year Shaq and Big Stanley played together...Stanley was better.

Shaquille

Was so good that the SEC home office encouraged the refs to let opponents mug Shaq in ridiculous ways with no calls. Shaq had bruises on bruises after each game.

One game Shaq had his shorts almost pulled completely off. The no calls were completely absurd at times.

Jamie Brandon a high school AA.

Stanley Robert’s WAS better than Shaq for the season together. He was much more polished.

I would say Pettit was a true 4 but played center at LSU and overall had a better game than Shaq. Nothing to be ashamed of. Pettit is one of the all time greats to ever play the game. He could shoot, rebound and play inside. Top 10 4 to ever play the game.

and at this weight He looked downright skinny; yet, he was 50 lbs heavier than anybody else in college basketball (save for Arkansas’ Oliver Miller who was very fat).

I don’t think that’s accurate. Stanley was clearly more polished and a much more developed offensive player, but Shaq was far more athletic, much more intimidating on defense and an equal or better rebounder.
