Actually, if you look at the first 3 games last year we looked at least as good to this point.

After the first two wins there were too many posts stating how good this team was blah, blah, blah. I said it after those two wins and will say it again. Give the team until Jan. Enjoy the wins we get and lets see how the team does against actual competition. It is far too early to say what this team is right now.

No one is posting about how good this team is. They have posted about how much better it looks than last year. That is obvious. It’s basketball. Teams have bad halves. Especially against a team you are favored to beat by 20. They did not show up on defense last night that’s for sure but they have played better against better teams . We will see early December what we really have .

Not sure what your point is here as no one is really expecting much from men’s basketball. Just enjoy the wins where we can get them.

We looked much worse last year. We played 2 cupcakes in the first 3 games, and 2 of them were leading at halftime. Then of the first 6 teams we played, at least 4 were cupcakes, yet 3 of them 4 led at halftime: Al State, Charleston So., and NW State. We only dominated La Monroe from start to finish. We have dominated all 3 teams this year, and I think all 3 were slightly better than the first 3 cupcake teams we played last year.

It is early, but this team looks far better. It will probably still struggle to get out of the bottom of the SEC, but I think this team is the best of the McMahon era.

Yeah, and 4-17 from 3. The team lacks shooters

In the 3 games prior to last night (including the exhibition at UCF) LSU shot the following from 3:

UCF: 10-23 (45.5%)
Tarleton St: 8-18 (44%)
UNO: 10-27 (37%)

Those aren't bad FG%. For reference, the SEC leader in 3pt FG% last season was Kentucky at 37.5%. For further reference, last season LSU only shot above 35% from 3 one time in their first 10 games

We'll see if last night was simply an "off night", or a sign of things to come. It's also of note that of LSU's 17 attempts, 11 were in the first half. So it looks like there was a concerted effort to go inside in the second half recognizing the 3 ball may not be falling. LSU had 20 FT attempts in that half.

Through 3 games, they’re 54% from FG, 80% from the line and 35% from 3 as a team.

Shooting isn’t one of their obvious weaknesses. All teams have bad shooting stretches/halves/games.

Yep. LSU struggled vs. Alabama St and a bad Charleston So. The only caveat is they also went on the road and decisively beat Kansas St. in game 3. If you like the term "game control", I think you could argue this is the best LSU has looked in the first 3 games, collectively, of any of McMahon's 4 seasons.

The next two games won't show a lot given Alcorn is bad and Omaha's best player from their NCAAT team last year now plays for LSU. But 4 games in (counting the game vs. UCF) there are some encouraging signs of life.

This team looks exactly like all of the rest of his teams, with a little more talent…the losses will come quickly in conference play

They should shoot well vs bad teams, but a 4-17 night is alarming and fits the eye test. The team as a whole does not take great shots. There are only 2 guys that look like guys that will be able to consistently make shots. Judging form, balance, softness of shot. Pretty easy to see

And last year they would have continued to take 3's. And those 3's usually came as a desperation shot as the shot clock ran out. So no they aren't taking bad shots. All teams have bad nights. Auburn had to go to overtime to beat Bethune Cookman. Who do you think has more talent? What didn't show up last night was perimeter defense. They have played better defense in the other games. We'll see if it was just an off night or a trend. But let's quit making judgements based on a first half.

I'm still cautiously optimistic and giving MM the benefit of the doubt. They're a new team and have to gel but 3-0 is 3-0. Some of these games have been closer than I'd like at times but they've always pulled away in the end.

I like some of the chemistry I see. Who knows. We're picked 15th in the conference. MM just has to go dancing.

I think he is fine. We have to remember that he is 19 years old playing with a lot of 22-23 year olds.

He is not decisive on offense yet.

I agree. Looking at him last season vs this season, he seems to be close to his end-of-season form now. Which makes me think (or at least hope) we will see him advance quite a bit as the season matures.

Dang it, they are sucking me in again.

I am not sure that a game against Tech is going to prove anything either. I think the SMU game will provide a little better measuring stick for us.

What’s the reasoning here? Texas Tech is better than SMU.

Three point attempts when you can’t shoot are bad shots.

People tend to forget that LSU was in a lot of those SEC games last year against ranked teams late in the games. Could have beat Bama on the road if they could have just hit a few 3's. Was in the game late with Auburn and FL but the talent took over. And scoring was one of our biggest issues last year along with size. We would have multiple scoring droughts during a game.We had 2 gym jumpers in Collins and Chest but when the bigs would take them low and body them they were too skinny to compete. And neither could shoot from the outside. We didn't have a Nooko and Reed was injured and Miller was a freshman. And we sure didn't have a good PG.
