re: There should be absolutely no argument: Jayden Daniels is the 2nd best QB in LSU History

JD has been good but, he hasn’t faced the competition Burrow faced. He doesn’t have quite the same tangibles. He also has a defense that gets off the field so fast from getting scored on that he gets to stay on the field significantly longer than Burrow did and gets way more opportunities with the ball than Burrow did.
Don't insult or tear down your current quarterback, to knight for the guy who isn't here anymore.

It's honestly hard to say if Burrow would have done any better with this team than Daniels has. Daniels has hit guys who have dropped the ball, something that almost never happened in 2019. It DID happen in 2018, and Burrow took a few L's that year.
And Burrow had quite a few defensive studs on his team, too. We'd kill for Delpit and Stingley, hell Fulton would be a huge upgrade.
Note, I'm not downing Burrow either. It was just a different style of QB.

The fact that you can even make a reasonable argument about Daniels being in the same league as Burrow is a testament to his greatness. I don't think any of us thought we would ever be talking about another QB in the same light as Burrow. Both will be all time great.

think it's a valid argument.
Daniels can do things with his legs Burrow could only dream of.
Nabers might edge Marshall out as the 3rd WR, might not. He doesn't match Chase or Jefferson.
Diggs may be a solid 2nd behind Clyde.
If this defense wasn't historically bad, and we play Fla St in game 2 (like we did Texas in 2019) instead of opening with them, this might be a repeat of 2019. Unstoppable offense
While few and far between, JD can still make a bad throw here or there. As I said, very rare though.
JD is an elite QB that comes through CFB ~annually. I.e. Caleb Williams, CJ Stroud, etc
Burrow is a once in 20+ years elite

Possibly #1. Joe had a lot more talent around him. How about 1a and 1b?

Jamarcus Russell couldn’t hold JD’s jock. Most overrated player to come out of lsu.
Burrow going to a Super Bowl and playing great as a QB in the nfl shows how good he really was as a QB at LSU. Glad I got to see him play against Texas.

Tommy Hodson, Bert Jones, and David Woodley say hold my beer.

You’re kidding me right?!? Dude…Jamarcus wasn’t smart enough to play today’s triple option game.

Burrow is in a league of his own.
To a degree. Now you can put Daniels in a league of his own also as he is the ONLY QB in LSU history to have 5000 yards passing and 1000 yards rushing.

There is a lot of season left to be played. I’d say he definitely has the 2nd highest ceiling of any QB we’ve ever had.

I like JD5 but this is his 5th yr at qb.
In 2020, he literally played 4 games. Let’s not count that as a season.

He'll have probably over 20 more starts as JR.
It will be more than that, but that doesn’t mean shite. JR redshirted in 2003. Then for his redshirt freshman year, he played behind Marcus Randall

Why not just be glad we have a great qb and quit defending him all the time. He doesn't need defending.
Because you still got some people here who are big mad mad that
A: he is our QB.
and
B: he is doing so damn good.
You really can not make a logical argument against the OPs post. That’s why those “certain hat wearing people” who hate JD for “reasons” just downvote these threads but offer zero rebuttal.

Bert Jones good, not great.
If you are comparing stats, it was a different era with much less passing.
If you are comparing ability, Bert Jones was an elite NFL QB. Injuries shortened his effectiveness and career. If he had played for the Dolphins, Steelers, Cowboys, or Raiders in the 70s, he'd be spoked of as one of the best ever.
I forget what documentary I was watching - maybe something on the Colts' fiasco trying to draft Elway. But there was some insider talking about Bert Jones and said he really was another Elway but the injuries and playing behind a poor OL shortened his career. His teams got knocked out of the playoffs every year either by the all-time great Steelers or the Raiders. Early on they also had to deal with Dolphins. I don't know if Jones' experience contributed to Elway refusing to play for the Colts but it didn't help.
So, it will take a lot to dislodge Jones from my no. 2 spot. Daniels can do it, though. I really like him and think he will be a really good NFL QB.

On offense? I’m not so sure but time will tell

Technically, this is correct but I think he had in mind the NFL of today, i.e., after the merger with the AFL.

You didn't even mention Bert Jones or Hodson, but mention Mettenberger and Flynn... Put "2nd best Statistical Qb in LSU history" in your title.
