Well, bubba. The NCAA's plan was for the 5-for-5 rule to apply moving forward. It’s individual court judges who retroactively applied it to older classes
No dumbass. The rule applies to the 2022 class. These players are in that class.

Exactly right. If the gumps were trying this, this whole board would be against NFL players in CFB.
Posted on 8/26/26 at 12:34 pm to Tdubs7
Why exactly should the players be punished because the NCAA tried to use them as pawns to force the Save College Sports Act through Congress?
Posted on 8/26/26 at 12:41 pm to Tdubs7
Maybe, maybe not
Never forget, the SEC helped construct this trough and now they don't wish to it from it. Pretty disingenuous

They're all pros, both in college and NFL, so what difference does it make?
I agree both get paid.
The difference is....believe it or not.... college kids are tax exempt and pros pay taxes. Colleges are mostly afraid of losing their tax exempt status....and you know our government will tax them like everyone else as soon as they hire professionals and this is not amateur athletics.
This is the underlying and hidden topic no one is talking about.
My solution is you have to pay taxes on the nil money if you come back to college after being a pro but the college itself remains tax exempt.

Go away. Retards like you don't understand that this is the one and only year this can happen

Just to make sure I'm understanding. You believe college kids are tax exempt?
From fricking what?

You try out for an NFL team and don’t make it, go get a job.
Well I think that’s what these players are trying to do. Playing for a college team is also a job.

Why is Texas not getting shite in for this? Because their guy got cut sooner?

There’s no way the Rev Share money is tax free. That’s preposterous

We are 100% against this if the rules are being applied to everybody. You can't selectively decide what TROs you will listen to and which ones you won't listen too.
This is being applied to everyobody. Everybody who signed a pro contract is ineligible. What am I missing here?
Are you suggesting that this new rule by the SEC should somehow affect Chambliss? He never went pro. Thats not the SEC choosing which TRO to listen to. Thats the SEC making a stronger more concise rule and then disqualifying anyone who breaks said rule. Chambliss hasn't broken the rule.

According to Hester, camp invites don't sign an NFL contract. They sign a waiver that states that the team will cover medical costs if they are injured during the minicamp.

The NCAA has ruled him ineligible! He went to court and blocked it. Just like these players did. If the SEC is going to punish a school for playing these players. Then Ole Miss should be punished for playing Chambliss. You can’t punish one school for going against its rules and playing them and not the other for playing one that is ruled ineligible by the NCAA.
You can’t pick and choose, who you let play. Fine Chambliss got TRO against the NCAA just like the other players. The SEC should say any player that is not eligible with the NCAA but has a TRO. Still can’t play in our conference. Period!
But if they let one. They should let them all. I hope LSU is pushing just that.
Let all of them play or NO one!!!!!!!

Reading comprehension is hard, buddy. Nobody said the 2022 class wasn't affected by the recent court mess. The point is that the SEC and Big Ten have their own bylaws. A federal judge can rule that an ex-NFL camp player has NCAA eligibility, but Greg Sankey and the SEC presidents explicitly voted to slam the door on them playing in this conference. Go ask a court to force LSU to take them back and see how fast it gets thrown out.
If you get your wish, an undrafted 23-year-old who just spent three months getting paid in an NFL training camp can walk into LSU's locker room tomorrow and take a roster spot or a starting job away from a kid who has been sweating through fall camp here all summer. The SEC banned it to stop that exact exact scenario. It's about protecting the current roster, not bailing out guys whose NFL gamble didn't pay off.
The stereotype of message board fanatics being the bottom dwellers of sports sure pans out here.

In the far golden days of my youth the rules made sense. No one was being paid(supposedly) and the colleges were trying to protect the time and effort they put into developing athletes. Without a portal, you generally had to sit out a year if you transferred. So turning pro was the only way to leave early. To protect against this the rules demanded that a player declare he was going pro in a certain time period and if he did, from that point forward he could no longer be a college player. This gave the colleges almost complete control over an athlete and his future. This is what the old guard are trying to hold on to. Which is best? Open to debate which is happening now. But to still consider these men and women student athletes is really going out on a limb. How many of these athletes since the 60's have graduated with, not just a degree but a meaningful useful degree.

I never said "affected." I said it applies to the 2022 class. You implied that it didn't when you said:

Why do you and other idiots like you keep pretending that "getting paid" is relevant in college sports in 2026?
And by your logic, we should not take any transfers at all because other players that were already here have been here longer, have been "sweating through" several seasons, are more loyal, and shouldn't have their spot "taken."
As I said from the start, you are too dumb to understand any of this. You couldn't argue your way out of a paper bag.

Changing the rules retroactively to bail out players who chose the pros isn't 'fairness'
They didn’t choose- they were out of eligibility at the time. Now they punished because they took the only path available to them at the time.

LSU isn't being singled out.
A player who left the university and signed a pro contract (with two different teams) and was still under contract with the second team should not be allowed to sign with a university.
Cleveland didn't waive him until he agreed to go to LSU.
I don't believe the other players mentioned were still under contract with an NFL team. (I could be wrong about that.
