The court has was played the 2023 police video interview of the first alleged victim.
At the beginning of the interview, she stated: “I’m reporting that Russell Brand did rape me.”
The woman told police that she first encountered Brand at a Labour Party conference fringe event in Bournemouth in 1999, where he approached her from behind and repeatedly pulled her ponytail.
She initially described him as “very gentlemanly”, “attentive” and “softly spoken”. She said she had even assumed he was gay because of his mannerism.
The woman later invited Brand back to her hotel room to continue their conversation because she didn't want to go to pubs and clubs. And she would not have invited him if she thought that he was hitting on her, she also said that he wasn't her type.
However, she alleged that his behaviour changed after they arrived. She described him taking off his shirt, acting strangely and becoming increasingly intimidating.
She told police she became frightened when Brand forced her to take pictures of him, saying: “I was really scared.”
According to her, Brand then pushed her onto the bed and removed her trousers.
The woman said she mentally disconnected from what was happening, but made clear that she remembered saying no.
During the alleged rape, she said Brand repeatedly told her that “it’s all fine” and that what was happening was “normal”, which she felt was an attempt to convince her that his actions were acceptable.
Afterwards, Brand allegedly reassured her that she should not worry about sexually transmitted infections because he regularly got himself tested.
However, the woman said she experienced nightmares about the possibility of becoming pregnant.
She described the alleged attack as quick and told police that Brand behaved as though nothing was wrong afterwards.
She said she remained silent, sat on the bed crying and felt stupid about what had happened.
When Brand eventually left the hotel room, she locked the door and placed a chair in front of it because she was frightened he might return.
She also described spending hours washing herself in the bathroom, feeling dirty and blaming herself for what had happened.

If tweet fails to load, click here. It took her 25 years to report the alleged rape, and she admits she invited him to her hotel to "have a conversation"

I’ll give you 6mo…maybe a year at most.

No rape kit, no rape.
That's my line in the sand. If you were not traumatized enough to immediately call the police, then you are not credible.
We don't allow people to make these kinds of claims about other crimes with no evidence after such long periods of time. Not sure why rape should be different.
If Russell Brand was a plumber, this would not be happening.

Literally not even a shred of evidence against him. How is this a case?
It should be laughed out of court.
Doesn't a crime have to be proven in a court with facts?

It’s about starting a conversation

Rape can be “proven” with only the testimony of the supposed victim. It’s insane and we should require more. If you’re accused and get a Lindsey Clancy women jury or she cries well enough on the stand? You’re screwed even if there’s zero actual evidence.

You'd need twelve of them, which is why it's such a good thing that Louisiana moved to unanimous jury verdicts.

Women do not invite me who aren’t her “type” up to their hotel room. Frankly, I’m embarrassed for her that she stupid enough to think anyone would believe something this stupid.

That’s terrible. If it true, then Russel Brand deserves prison for a long time.
Too bad there is no way to verify her story. Unless there is a body of evidence that we’re unaware of past her claiming he raped her, this case should be dismissed due to lack of evidence.

These type of women do real damage to regular people. The "I had no control over my actions" is an extremely convenient position that should be cause to immediately throw a legal case out.
What if Brand said that she wanted him really bad and he "mentally disconnected" from what was happening? He would be laughed out of the room.

If I had just been raped I don't think I would just be hanging out in bed.

25 years is ridiculous but we need to stop saying that an invitation to someone’s room is a green light for sex.

For a second there I thought we might be making history- and a woman would take some personal accountability- but then this.
