Fans are going to be upset when top players decide to not play, because it makes our team worse.

It's a shame that people are so willing to publicly shame someone for doing what's in their best interest, but in the same breath, I also hate seeing someone essentially give up when things got tough.

The timing does make it look worse. I personally think O and Marshall discussed this "opting out" in season as something they would look at as things progressed. Marshall would've been a 1st round pick even if he would've opted out before the season IMO. Now that his value is set at the next level, he decided to pull the trigger.

Then it will end entirely as we know it. The fans are not going to be as rabid or emotionally/financially invested whenever players are skipping full seasons and quitting mid-year when the team sucks.
This trend will just continue to drive a wedge between the fans and college players.
