To be honest, I don't know much about the guy other than him winning an NC a year ago. I don't know what he inherited or built

Then why even be a part of the discussion? Baylor was an awful program. And that was BEFORE one of their players killed another one, and the HC tried to cover up the fact that he paid the tuition for a player by saying the player paid his own way by being a drug dealer. It was arguably the worst scandal in college basketball in the 21st century (to date). Drew took over the job 3 months before the season was to start with a limited roster. The program was on significant probation. So bad that one season they weren’t even allowed to play non-conference games. They literally started the season in January.

He turned that program into a consistent NCAAT team and eventual national champion. But for the 2020 NCAAT being canceled, this would be the third straight season Baylor would be a #1 seed. He has them rolling at an elite level.

If (and I don’t think it will happen) LSU were to hire him it would be a grand slam hire

No way this is happening. Drew is very happy at Baylor, and he would never want to work with Kim again.

And vice versa. Drew is a non-starter. Woody has zero interest

Because I enjoy discussion. Me admitting I don’t know much about the guy nor saying that (at this point) I wouldn’t be overly excited about the hire doesn’t mean my mind can’t be changed. Unlike most of the posters on this forum, I’m pretty open-minded. And this place, as far as I’m concerned, should be a place for us to have that discussion. And, yes, I’m paying attention to what you folks are saying about him. I’m definitely optimistic. Much more than I was when I initially responded.

ETA: I read it as work for Kim again. That's why I laughed.

Two very different situations.

One, while Drew lived in Baton Rouge for only 4 years in his early life because his dad was an asst coach at LSU, he is NOT a Louisiana boy the way Mulkey is a Louisiana girl. She was born here, raised her, played here, and still has family here, which allowed Woodward to play on that. None of those things apply to Drew.

Two, while Mulkey was taking over a program that was downtrodden on success, it was not facing the same situation or uncertainty that the men’s program is. Plus she knew LSU is capable of being great as it had been once before. The men have had great moments; but not the consistency the women experienced from 2000-2009.

Gonna be a few coaches getting raises at their schools. Woodward is going to try to throw money around which is all his good at and he will end up overpaying for a guy like Buzz.

No one cares anymore about LSU basketball. Too much negativity cast over it like a shroud, it’s exhausting.

I’ve read articles on Louisville and UGA coaching searches. Both had Drew as a possible target. Is there some knowledge within the industry that he can be had? Big 12 issues? Perhaps he’s not as long a shot as some think?

I’m on board but it’s hard to believe Drew would leave Baylor after almost 20 years at the helm.

Hmm, I wonder where we have heard this before? Can’t quite put my finger on it.

Not saying you are wrong. Would be happy with this hire. But have we learned nothing from the football coaching search? I won’t believe anything until there is an official announcement…….

Woodward has been away from Baton Rouge for 2 weeks now. There’s a reason a phone call was used in firing Wade.

People are saying this didn't happen.

We'll see. The bottom line is LSU fans ride with football and baseball. A good basketball team is a nice bonus, but if Jay Johnson and Brian Kelly both flop, I don't think Scott Drew will save Woodward. His future is likely tied to these two hires.
