If Verge can't find a way to fire him this year, it's a gigantic failure. McMahon has killed the program and LSU would honestly send the message that they are content having an atrocious basketball program. If they hold on to him, every blue hair should cancel their season tix that they continue to buy for an awful product.

I believe Verge will find a way to make it work though and get rid of McMahon.

McMahon

Id rather shut down the basketball team for a season than go through one more season of this guy haha. I’d rather see Jordan Jefferson line up under center for the football team than see CMM running the BB team next season. Jo matter what the price is, there is no acceptable outcome other than CMM getting fired. LSU holds continuing studies students to a higher standard than this flop.

Fire McMahon and staff and give the new coach and staff a year 0. It's the same thing. There is absolutely no reason to keep McMahon and hire a new staff. It accomplishes absolutely nothing.

McMahon is the figurehead, and as long as he's here, the program will stay on life support.

So CMM will have to do it all himself. No staff to support him. I like this plan... Lol

You say they can not afford to or do not want to spend the money?
I say how can they afford not to if they have any hope of remaining relevant and putting a team together to compete. It is a matter of producing a viable product to compete in order to get the money from the SEC basketball TV contracts. Maybe get Woodside Energy, Lady of the Lake, and Nike to all contribute some cash. 30 million for a basketball team seems excessive but I guess that is the going rate. I don't have a clue. I would expect some of the expenses would be offset by ticket sales etc but still that is a lot of money. I do not see how they can justify a new Pete's Palace when no one is going to show up to watch this team perform. I wonder if it would be wise to look at the other sports that are just not that big with the fan base tennis, golf etc Not sure how much money these sports are budgeted. How does the "Woodside Tiger Mens Basketball team sound for $30 million? We got accept and face the music, Money talks and bullshite walks. You want to be relevant in a sport you need big bucks and corporate sponsor.

This kind of reads to me like they’re tightening the noose to let him go next year. Probably just one more year of suffering, last ditch effort for him to prove himself

There is no $30 million figure. That is completely fabricated.

CoachMc makes <$3 million a year and his buyout is spread out over the length of his contract, which is 3 more years. His buyout is also 80% of the remaining contract, not the entire amount.

LSU is not spending more than $4 million a year on a new HC, again payable over the length of the contract, probably ~5 years.

LSU is not spending more than $10 million a year in MBB NIL, regardless of coach, unless years from now coach has proven to be hugely competitive nationally.

The numbers being thrown around concerning LSU MBB are absolute bullshite. Complete and utter BS.

His reasoning is flawed and short-sighted.

The funny thing is they basically brought back Patrick to help him out. They would have to throw the towel after 1 year essentially saying “there’s no hope for this guy.”

Another example of how little knowledge/understanding the media has regarding basketball.

If they "gut the staff", that means LSU would have to pay buyouts for (at least) Dupree, Courtney, and Patrick. THEN, McMahon would have to hire an entirely new staff. No assistant coach worth a damn is going to come to LSU on a cheap, 1 year contract. All to do what? Save ~$2.5M (the equivalent of what MM would be owed for next season if fired at the end of this year?) Also, how much do you think donors are going to be willing to give to a guy WHO HASN'T WON IN FOUR YEARS!? Talk about a terrible investment

That is not how it works for MBB. They get that money even if they win zero games.

This "news" is probably just to raise more money from the big $ donors which will be needed to fix Woody's mess.

Yeah this is bullshite. They aren’t clearing out the assistants and keeping MM. Having said that, it’s clear that he should make changes past DP- Tasmin is an untouchable assistant that gets to keep his job year in and year out and he makes no discernible difference in wins and losses. If he wants to continue in this field, he needs to go coach elsewhere. He’s been protected at lsu and it’s not good for his professional growth.
