We arent a basketball school. We are a baseball school who occasionally wins big in Football.

Its the truth, and a hard one to swallow, and Im okay with never winning another basketball game ever again if we can continue winning baseball games and bring the football program to an actual elite level.

What the hell does this even mean? That LSU can't ever be consistently good in any sport because "LSU" has decided it can only be good in baseball? LSU was NEVER a "baseball school"...until it was. What made that the case was LSU got fortunate in hiring the right head coach, Bertman. It's wasn't like administration decided one day in 1984 "the hell with the other sports. We are going to sink a ton of money into baseball because we want to be really good." The success came because LSU found the right HC. The exact same thing happened in basketball a few years before.

The right HC generates success, which generates interest. That is the case in EVERY sport. LSU is not a "baseball school" or a "basketball school", or a "football school". It's a "WHATEVER IS WINNING school". Right now LSU basketball is not winning because it has a poor HC. But that doesn't mean LSU can't ever be a great basketball program.

A great example of that will be on display in the PMAC tomorrow. Alabama was never a "basketball school". Hell, LSU, historically, was more of a "basketball school". Then, Alabama hires a HC from Buffalo. He wins the league in his second season. Since that time Alabama has been to the NCAAT every year, reaching at least the Sweet 16 four of the last five year, including the Final Four two years ago for the first time in school history. That wasn't because Alabama was historically a "basketball school" or that the school decided out of the blue it wanted to be a "basketball school." It's simply because Alabama made the right HC hire...ALL of the success and interest has flowed from that single decision.

Saying LSU is a "baseball school" or a "football school" or "(insert sport here) school" and, thus, can't have a good basketball program is both simplistic and stupid.

Id say I’m done if he’s retained..but the program has basically been dead to me the last 2 seasons under this dork anyway.

What good does firing the staff do? Go cheap on a new staff? Then what wait and see? I like McMahon but dumping the staff won’t win games. Burn it down start over and create excitement.

NIL and CoachMc are costs regardless whether he’s retained or let go. The only additional cost is paying for the new coach and staff. The rest is already baked into next season. Not sure how that’s so difficult to understand.

Agree. False argument by many people.
But I'm hearing that Verge doesn't feel that donors are up for another big ramp up other than the obvious increase in NIL.
And the other argument is that if Jalen Reed and Thomas stayed healthy we would be in the middle of the SEC right now and be in the tournament. That would have spurred interest and given MM new life in his quest to bring BB back from the dead.
I see what a difference Thomas makes when he is healthy and I know that Reed is our best big so gotta believe that we would have won 4-6 more games.

Mike S is connected ,he doesn’t spread BS.Theres a chance Verge is throwing stuff out there to get a response from the fans. They always use the press to throw out trial balloons to see how much push back they get.

Any new coach is going to want more committed than what was given this season. Even the most robust estimate of what LSU spent on their roster was $9 million. For comparison, Kentucky allegedly spent $22 million on their roster. We have a long way to go to even be competitive with top SEC schools.

No one has said during NIL that we need to compete for top SEC (3--5), but being the absolute bottom dweller? And you defend this shite?

GTFO. Hope Verge likes an empty PMAC. It would cost them so much more to go the cheapskate route. Then fire McMahon next year anyway. Ugh. Only LSU BB. Hope Mike is wrong.

That's a giant failure by Verge then.

We lost all the SEC games he played in and lost to the only high level SEC quality non-conference team we played.

and I know that Reed is our best big

He wasn't when he was playing. He was coming back from a big injury so the idea that we was going to be a huge difference maker is as unknown as a it was last year when he was coming off a big injury.

reading Verge’s interview with tigerrag, it sounds like we would 110% be really healthy as an athletic department and could easily fire McMahon if we didn’t have the Brian Kelly buyout.

Incredible job all the way around by Scott Woodward. frick that guy

If you don't have any intention of paying up to be one of the best teams in the league, it's not worth it. That revenue share, NIL, and donor money is much better spent on football. Going halfway in is not a winning solution for the program and we don't have the resources available or willingness to exceed that at this point.

I love men's basketball, but it's a pecking order situation. It's way down the pecking order in the fanbase, boosters, and administration.

What a moronic idea! Got a coach that has failed miserably for four years and this is the dumb arse idea Verge has for us?!?!?!?!

I would rather LSU announce that we will not play next season and spare us another humiliating season because our leadership is to damn stupid to figure it out!!!! And that would give us enough time to replace Verge and get a real AD!

No response to a logical and thought out answer, huh? Figures you'd rather just troll and flame the board with McPuns instead of discussing the reality of the program.

Very rarely are you logical or thought out.

Discoursing with you is a waste of time. You ignore all facts and then just speculate on your opinion. If it was worth my time, I would engage full reasoning. But I prefer to not waste my time. Only reason I'm responding now is waiting for the baseball game.

All in or all out. Terrific point. Glad someone finally said it. Joke poster.
