Explain this:
the possession thing. Uhh, throw an interception or fumble in there and it gets all screwed up.

Defer for 2 reasons:
To win the middle 8, which can cripple your opponent

Also, on the road to start the 2nd half, alot of the crowd isnt settled from the bathroom and concessions, you want the ball during that time.

ehhh, I've always preferred to defer, especially if you have a good defense. Shut them down right out of the gate, and then go pound.

But, I don't care either way

Defer unless you think you are going to absolutely boat race someone

I always defer. Only reason I would take ball first is if I’m extremely confident I can score on their defense first drive with a specific matchup or scheme.

But the BK plan of take the ball and go 3 and out was absolute bullshite.

I can admit two things

1. I’m obviously terrible at math lol
2. I should not have posted that dumb scenario after a few cocktails

Receive or Defer?

everyone always overthinks this issue and it's so tiresome. It equals out.

So put your best unit on the field first to try to immediately take control of the game.

It never makes sense to get the ball first. If you look at it logically then you’ll understand that asking for the ball first means there’s a chance you’ll have less possessions:

Anyone who says otherwise is a moron

I can tell math isn't your strong suit, but you have 6 total possessions in the first half and 5 in the second half. The only real reason coaches like to defer is because they want to try and steal back-to-back possessions at the half to gain an advantage.

If you can’t get smashed and post some ignorant shite on a message board then what are we even doing here?

Exactly. And at the end of the day, analytics are just a data point. They still have to go out and execute.

I prefer the defer.

Love the opportunity to go back to back on possessions

It's amazing how many down votes you got for this post.

In the history of football, late in the 2nd quarter, do you think a HC has ever screamed into his headset: "Hot damn!!!!!!!!! We get to KICKOFF to start the 3rd quarter boys!!!!!!!!"

That's NEVER HAPPENED. It's one of the biggest and most overlooked advantages in a football game to receive the ball starting the 3rd quarter.

Lane and BK are not similar spades. I trust that Lane can score on opening possession more than BK.

I would normally say defer but with the running clock changes made last season you lose 1-2 possessions a game from the old model.
