I never wanted Jimbo.

I will admit to wanting Tom Herman, and I’m still not convinced he would not have been successful here.

I actively called for his firing when he was OC here. Never liked him or his philosophy

1. It was silly for Jimbo to leave FSU for aTm (other than the money)

2. It was even sillier for LSU to pursue Jimbo after he had just jumped from FSU to aTm.

3. Frankly, the lows of the O era were worth it because of 2019

4. Ultimately, we ended up with the best coach in CFB without a title (and better than some with titles - notably, Jimbo)

We'll see if Kelly has enough time before his retirement to build a lasting dynasty at LSU.

He was one of the better OCs at that time. Les messed up some of the calls though because les was a clown.

Jimbos problem is his offense hasn’t been updated much since 06.

Now I don’t think he’s as good as Miles.

He isn’t. Miles has a title here and while people want to shite on him he was a 10 win a year coach which isn’t easy.

There is a lot to not like about Miles but people act like he was shite and he wasn’t shite, he just wasn’t as great of a coach as LSU deserves.

I wish we didn’t have to play him every year.

He owns us.

Ill admit it. I wanted Jimbo the first time around when Les Miles was supposed to be fired back in 2015. But IMO he was a different coach back then. Over that time his offense has become antiquated and I didnt like how he lost control of his very talented FSU team. After Les Miles got fired, I wanted Herman not Jimbo. And like other posters have said it seems like Coach O worked out because if you would have told me Coach O would be here for 3 years and he would have given you the greatest team of all time but you would have two terrible seasons. Id take that deal every time.

So far I like what Kelly is doing.

This place was almost completely in wanting either Jimbo or Herman as head coach, and both would’ve been disasters for us if they had panned out.

Instead we got Ed Orgeron, who for all his faults managed to capture lightning in a bottle in 2019, and now we replaced him with an established head coach who has already had a good year under his belt

Nearly everyone thought Ed O would be a total disaster too. But as you mentioned, even he won a NC at LSU. There are reasons why guys like Miles and Ed O won national championships at LSU but never came close to matching that success anywhere else.

I think Jimbo's best years are probably behind him, but he at least won a national championship at FSU. Herman is a weird dude, but he actually never had a losing season at Texas and won all 4 bowl games. He is the only coach who has won 10 games in a season at Texas since 2009. Texas just thinks they are better than they actually are (like aTm).

Ed O did work his arse off in recruiting and it paid off. Miles also recruited well for a long time. At a place like LSU, if you can just recruit well and not make disastrous coordinator hires, you can get good to great results without being a great coaching mind. I'm glad things worked out like they did, but Herman and Jimbo could have probably had success at LSU too. And Herman was actually the guy who convinced Urban Meyer to offer Burrow a scholarship at Ohio State. Without that, the Joe Burrow story probably would have never unfolded the way it did.

I definitely wanted him (and I wasn't alone), especially in 2015 when the first rumors about Les being fired cropped up. Didn't want him so much after O was fired.

He had a natty, won 10+ games at FSU multiple times, recruited well, and developed a number of QBs (including a few guys like Mauck, Ro and Jamarcus who had LSU records until Burrow came along).

That said, glad things worked out how they have.

Jimbo is an aging, fat, machine-gun cocaine-induced speaking coach. I think he comes across as a stupid village idiot hillbilly.
