FSU had issues regarding spending on athletics, facilities in particular, back then. Jimbo wanted out at least 3 years prior to his only bad season.
Without Famous Jameis

I never wanted him as the head coach but to say he was a complete disaster or that Winston saved him is disingenuous at best.

10-4 (first 10 win season in 7)
9-4
12-2
Jameis NC
Jameis lost to Oregon in the first round of CFP
10-3
10-3
5-6

Good post. People forget that FSU was also preseason #3 heading into his only bad season. I still think Jimbo firmly believed he had the talent to at least get into the CFP that year, and he'd be able to leverage that success into the FSU admin finally giving him the support he had been demanding.

Then in the opener against Bama, Deandre Francois got injured for the year when it was still a 3 point game (and FSU should've had the lead if not for a missed PI on Bama, but I digress). Jimbo totally checked out after that loss.

It worked out for us that we didn't end up with him, but Jimbo was a really good coach at one time. His biggest problem appears to be recruiting a bunch of diva players that he is unable to consistently motivate.

Admittedly, There was a time when I wanted him, as many of us did.

We dodged a bullet.

This is why I put little to no value in fan input on these things. I also was in the Jimbo camp twice and damn glad we did not get him. Even the Ogre was better than Jimbo in the long run.

I get paid a lot of money to do what I do and football/sports management aint it... I will leave that to those that are paid a lot of money (Waaaaaaay more than me BTW) to make those decisions.

Multiple 10 win seasons after his championship. Just say you don’t know what you are talking about.

Don’t double down on this. Jimbo erased decades of Bowden’s work in short order.

Here’s a TD post of mine right before the 2019 season. Didn’t look further into my post history, but I’ve railed against him on this board anytime his name has come up as a possible LSU coach both before and after my linked comment.

Some of y’all were scared of Jimbo in 2019

But...but... explain why Jimbo has beaten LSU the last 3 games in Kyle Field. It's uncanny, esp 2022 when LSU won the west.

Lmao! Revisionist history from a guy who doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. He went to the playoffs the year after winning the NC (13-1 record) and then won 10 games two years in a row after that. Jimbo was a hot commodity at the time.

Didn’t want either. Herman seemed to lose one or two games to less talented teams every year. It’s not as a big deal if it happens on rare occasions, but he was consistent in doing it. That was a red flag for me.
Jimbo won a lot of games at FSU, but remember FSU was in the ACC, which was not particularly competitive at the time. Miami was down, and Clemson wasn’t yet on the rise. By the end it was a train wreck. He did have an unsupportive administration which wanted him out, which may have been a contributing factor, but he seemed to have underachieved in a weak conference, overall.

I am thankful we have Kelly but it's not like Jimbo would have been the worst hire LSU has had made.

Had LSU hied Jimbo he would have been better than his two predecessors but I am thankful LSU was able to and did better than Jimbo

Joe Burrow would have made Curly Hallman look good just like Brett Favre did.

Absolutely didn’t want his arse this time around but was kinda wanting him in his FSU era. Very glad he isn’t at LSU.

neither. At the time I figured he was Les Miles 2.0. Now I don’t think he’s as good as Miles.

Same here. He caught lightning in a bottle with Winston. Outside of that, I never saw what people thought was so great about him.

I was so glad to see him sign a long term deal with TAMU... it meant he wasnt coming here, and A&M would be mediocre for the foreseeable future. Win-win in my book.

I’ve had my disdain for him since that 10-9 shite loss to Auburn in 2004. Never remotely wanted that douche anywhere near leading LSU.
