They aren't "student athletes". They are, in effect, paid professionals. And there may be some sort of breach of contract claims OM has against him. That's kind of inherent in the current system where there are technically no "employment" contracts and players are perpetual "free agents".
That said, if the report is accurate, serving him 3 days before the game against the school suing him is gamesmanship...that may backfire in this situation as now you've increased the motivation for LSU's best pash rusher.
As a fan though, I love it! It creates more animosity which makes rivalries fun. It also further enforces that LSU will (or should) have NO brakes against SEC opponents this season. Maybe the game is close. Maybe LSU loses the game. But if LSU has a big lead late you can bet they won't throttle down the attack or take mercy. A 25 point win isn't good enough if you can win by 35. Settling for a xp up 25 with 5:00 to go in the 4th isn't good enough. Go for two.
