LOL.. why is this number so important to DJ ? .. and if it is "only a number", why are all the posters up in arms about JD5 being upset, but not Pickett for threatening to transfer ?

I’m definitely not on JDs side in this whole thing but also both sides are being a little too serious about a number.

because it's the ONLY number he has worn his entire football career, from Pop Warner to HS. Kelly would not allow Pickett to wear #5 last year and forced him to wear #3.
DJ was a true Freshman All-American last year. His NIL deal for this year had NOTHING to do about money. It was solely about wearing #5.

Please someone correct this if it's not right. #5 was never officially retired, so since Picket specifically requested to wear it, he should be able to do just that.

Just because other players will where the same number you did , it doesn’t remove the memory of you and your greatness on the field. But you have to be practical. There’s only so many numbers to use.
