First Take and Steve Smith called out Kiffin and blamed him ignorantly. But glad Pickett's dad has come out and said this. Momma's boy made a mistake, I'm glad for what his career turned out to be at LSU but I'm out. I'm completely done with him.

Pickett doesn't deserve any backlash and hope he goes out and balls this year becoming and All-American and hopeful Thorpe winner. And then he can say "Would love for the next great Tiger to wear and honor the #5."

It’s 3 sides to every story. How do we know what the university told Jaden ?

LOL. we are letting a 22yo sophomore and his Dad cause all the drama,.. and somehow JD5 and his mom are taking the brunt of this.. also it is easy to read between the lines here.. LK probably told them it was not a good idea to switch to 5, but he called JD5 anyway, JD5 held ground and LK was in a pickle and had to give into the current player.

GTF.

Its sad and pathetic a grown arse man in the NFL gives a shite what number a kid is wearing at a school he has been removed from for 3 years now.

This is directly on BK. Dude reportedly didn't even know some of the defensive players names. So I have no doubt he had no fricking clue someone promised this kid he could wear this number.

I doubt Kiffin ever called JD nor should he. Not his player and whatever was said to JD in the past about any promises about LSU died with BK

Please someone correct this if it's not right. #5 was never officially retired, so since Picket specifically requested to wear it, he should be able to do just that.

I'm pretty sure there are no numbers "officially" retired.

Nobody has worn 20 since 1959, but it's not the result of some sort of official carved in stone edict as far as I'm aware.

Correct, since LSU has a written policy that they do not retire numbers. Since January 1,2007.

BOTH sides making WAY too much of an issue over a uniform number.

Where does Moscona say anything about transferring?

He doesn’t have to. Transferring is literally the only leverage players have in these negotiations. “Give me ___ or I’ll go somewhere else.” That’s it. Nobody has to explicitly say it, because it’s not necessary.

quote:

Negotiations can be had without threatening to transfer?

No, not really. It’s implied. DJ and his people didn’t have to use the word “transfer” or present it as a “threat.” But again, it is literally the only thing he can leverage. Negotiations are between 2 parties who both want something from the other. DJ wanted #5, whatever amount of money, and maybe some other little things. LSU wanted DJ to continue to play football for LSU. What else could he offer?

And that’s fine. When you use the words “threaten to transfer” it makes it sound negative, and you’re taking that as someone talking bad about DJ for it. But that’s not reality. Every negotiation Lane and LSU had with every player on the roster had the “threat” of not playing at LSU in ‘26 baked in automatically. Otherwise, what are we even negotiating? And why?

How is this not blatantly obvious?

WTF do you think this means? just curious

When Pickett was negotiating his contract to return to LSU, money was not the source of the negotiation, but rather the jersey number, LSU sources confirmed.

Pretty sure I can read, DJs stance was if you want me to return to LSU, I need #5... is there any alternate meaning to the quote above ?.. Now if you are calling Moscona a liar, that is something different.. but if DJ was negotiating his return contingent on him getting #5, that means he was leaving if he did not get #5

I don't know exactly what that phrase means and no one here conclusively knows, as well, but the linked article does not mention DJ possibly transferring if he didn't get #5 jersey. Did he threaten transferring if he didn't get #? No one here knows since none of us were there. I'd rather admit to not know something than claim I know something because I think i can between the lines. OTOH, that's how the internet works. Read between the lines, speculate or just make up something and broadcast it. After that's been down a few times, it becomes the truth.

This is ridiculous at this point.

Is every negotiation about leaving, hell no.

Can a negotiation be about leaving, absolutely yes.

Do any of us know what this negotiation was about and the terms of that negotiation or the phrasing within the negotiation, of course not.

If you negotiate something with your wife, does that mean if you don’t get what you want you’re leaving?

Stop this stupid argument.

Correct, that is why I was referencing an article, that said the jersey number was the return to LSU negotiation point not money, but then you somehow turned it into they possibly were negotiating money for the jersey

Yet threatening to leave the program by throwing a hissy fit if he didn't get his # jersey is fine by you?

My goodness I swear. Two things can be true.

1. Pickett was promised the number and should get the number he was promised.
2. Jayden can be mad about giving away his number when asked if it was okay.

However, to go and start this legal BS is a whole different matter. He shouldn't have been promised the number if you weren't going to give it to him but, he also didn't threaten legal action if he didn't get the number.

Jayden wore #5 well; but both of his years here there was a defensive player wearing #5. Jay Ward (safety) wore it in 2022 and L Welch (cornerback) wore it in 2023.

Maybe there shouldn't be another QB with #5, but in this case JD should man up and tell his mama and her lawyer to calm down.

I love it. I absolutely love this response. More power to Pickett for sticking to what he was promised.

Daniels should not be this selfish.

This should make him want to wear it more. It’s about the team. Daniels is coming across anti LSU over a number. It’s sad.

I’d love to see as many other 5s as possible because of this ridiculousness.
