Notes

-38 Starters have Started 5 Games in June

-Among the starters with 4 starts, Skenes would have the most pitches in the MLB.

- You might wonder why Lance Lynn is included? He is 3rd in the MLB in pitchers thrown overall, and has the most pitches thrown in June by starters with 4 starts. So he would be 2nd to Skenes for June. He is a complete workhorse, by MLB definition.

-The other guys are not listed in descending order. I add them as relevant names that people on this board would recognize.

Not all arms are created equal

Either way, he’s gonna throw tomorrow

One of those players is in the playoffs and pitching in playoff rest. The others have not even hit the mid season mark and are working on normal rotation.

He’s pitching tomorrow and likely starting.

Just hope he’s as close to 100% as physically possible and doesn’t get hurt during or after the fact.

That’s all there is to it.

You think biology changes because it's the playoffs?

I want to see him pitch and I want the team to win the championship. But I honestly believe letting him pitch is coaching malpractice and will prevent future high level prospects from coming to LSU

If I hey we’re in the playoffs or World Series, they would pitch as much as they can

Not really, in fact, a lot of teams now have a quicker hook on their starters in the playoffs and you don't really see anyone going on short rest anymore.

The biggest issue for pitchers is breaking balls. I would be curious to see how many non-breaking balls each of those pitchers pitched in June.

So what do we imagine the hard pitch limit on Skenes is tomorrow if he throws?

Do we start him and hope the staff can close the deal, or do we hold out to see what we get from Herring or Hurd and hope for Skenes in mid-relief or closing?

It is a lot of pitches, but Skenes is a little different. Previous to this year, when he wasn’t pitching, he was the everyday catcher. His arm and body are conditioned to a big workload, and this is the college World Series. I have to believe if he has anything in the tank, he will be available.

It should also be mentioned that Jay Johnson said they have had the pitching rotation mapped out for a week now.

It’s possible they could have been conditioning Skenes to pitch tomorrow this whole time. Does that mean this week-long conditioning routine will work or is 100% safe? Nope. But could it protect him some? Or make him 10% more effective? Sure, of course.

We’ll see.

240+ pitches in 2 outings last week isn't really conducive to that.
