Not really, in fact, a lot of teams now have a quicker hook on their starters in the playoffs
major league pens are nasty. They go there as soon as any matchup is needed or any signs

Those are mature arms. Skenes is still developing.

In the 2016 MLB playoffs, Kershaw pitched in 5 games over 15 days. He started 4 of them.

In the 2019 playoffs, Justin Verlander started 6 games over 25 days and threw a total of 608 pitches.

I don’t know why we’re comparing midseason pitch counts in the MLB to postseason pitch counts in college baseball

Kershaw has averaged 137 IP per season since 2016 and Verlander had to have TJ in 2020

how about during the MLB World Series? Doesn't the ace throw games 1,4, and 7?

See Curt Schilling 2001 World Series.

Oct 27th - 102 pitches 7 IP
October 31st - 88 pitches 7 IP
November 4th - 103 pitches 7.1 IP

Nolan Ryan used to routinely throw 150 pitches and the dude pitched until he was 46. Some guys are just built different.

He's going to pitch tomorrow but not like most in here think. it will be his bullpen day at best so he'll get a few innings.

Verlander had Tj after his first start in 2020 it’s not like he blew it out in the Playoffs and that’s after being an absolute workhouse for 15 years.

If skenes has TJ in 2038 I think he will be just fine with his career

From your keyboard to God's ears. I hope he can start and, if he does, I think he'll Bob Gibson out and go as deep in the game as he effectively can.

Also, are there actual examples of pitchers who "threw their arm out" by short-hopping the rotation? Seems if you're going to injure yourself to the point you need TJ or whatever, well, that could happen as easily on pitch 1 as pitch 101.

If I were Coach Jay I would meet with Paul, his parents (or at least his father) and Coach Wes, honestly lay out the risk/reward of making either decision, and then leave the room and let the family decide, then accept the decision at face value either way.

If that’s you, what do you do? A lifelong dream of winning the College World Series or saving yourself for MLB. I know what I’d choose. What say you?

So you’re including the COVID year and this year?

The three years that followed, he averaged 172 IP. He actually pitched fewer innings the year he did that.

What exactly is the point you think you’re making? That those postseasons directly caused Kershaw’s innings to decrease and Verlander to have TJ surgery a year later?

They should’ve had Skenes using a hyperbaric chamber everyday to speed up his recovery.

I have no emotion in this at all. Pitching injuries are like cancer. No preventative is 100% and you can do everything right and still get it. It’s a silent injury in which the cause is extremely difficult to pinpoint.

Most professional pitchers are big, strong men who do everything right, and the majority of them will have some type of serious arm injury. But hey it is as simple as “keep pitching if you feel good” huh

Hoenstly, yes. Every preventative measure they have tried so far has not had any positive impact. They have tried every scientific approach etc etc and nothing has made a dent. The simple truth is they don’t know why guys like Nolan Ryan exist and why others can’t stay healthy

And against Tennessee, Skenes only threw 46 fastballs in his 123 pitches. Not sure about Wake but i imagine the splits were similar

Dude, Skenes threw 46 fastballs over 100 mph in the Tennessee game and threw many many more fastballs than that over 98 mph.

Against Wake Forest on short rest Skenes touched 100 mph only about a dozen times.

This situation really underscores the stupidity of the Disney/ESPN compressed schedule, no doubt in place for ratings and revenue. We need an engaging storyline after all....

So here we are in the biggest game of the year, having fought back from the loser's bracket to emerge as an underdog, only to potentially sideline the nation's best player for the entire championship series because of the compressed schedule.

Heck of a job guys ....

Skenes’ World Series is July 9th when someone is going to pay him $9mil to play baseball

Did y’all hear what K Peterson said towards the end of today’s game (or right after it)?? He sort of said it under his breath. I remember Ben saying the same kind of thing about 2 months ago talking about his draft experience. Paraphrasing, KP said, I’m willing to bet there will be other forces at play tomorrow when Johnson has to decide if/when Skenes pitches and for how long.

Bottom line, how much will Skenes and Johnson allow Skenes’ agent/drafting team managers have influence? It’s a good question. Wish I could remember which game Ben was announcing where he talked about the June/July before he was drafted. Said the Orioles were dragging their feet and he had to decide whether he was staying at LSU and playing summer ball or shutting it down. He and his “people” basically told them, Ben’s doing whatever he wants with summer ball until you come up with a respectable offer. They did and he shut it down. I know it’s not exactly the same but I totally agree with KP. There’s likely other forces at play here.

Those other pitchers have 4 more months of baseball and have to pitch then. Paul has 1 more day of baseball. Would LSU pitch Paul tomorrow if we had 4 more months of baseball? No. Would the Phillies (if still his team) pitch Nola on 4 days rest for game 7 of world series tomorrow? Yes.

2 completely different things.
