quote:

"I have been the luckiest guy in the world to have lived out a childhood dream of becoming a college baseball coach," Mainieri said. "I've worked at four wonderful institutions, and it's been the honor of my life to have served as the head coach at LSU for 15 years. To have carried the torch of a program built by Skip Bertman, the greatest college baseball coach of all time, has been a tremendous privilege. It has always been my unwavering goal to sustain the excellence that was created here.

"I've been blessed throughout my career to coach unbelievable young men of great character and skill, and to have worked with talented and dedicated assistant coaches, support staff and administrators. It's very difficult to leave a profession that I truly love, but I'm so grateful for the amazing opportunities that have been presented to me through the years.

"Paul Mainieri has made an immeasurable impact not only at LSU, but across college baseball," said director of athletics Scott Woodward. "Every day he has taken the field, he has honored the game he loves with his class, his character, and his commitment to excellence. We are forever grateful for the championships he has won, the student athletes he has inspired, and memories he has gifted our fans over 15 seasons."

“He won’t leave because of the buyout.”

How much of the 3.3 you think he got? 2 mil?

I remember seeing a post a month ago that Paul would step down and avoid the buy out issue if he could have a say in the new hire. It makes sense but I hate the old coach having a major factor in a new hire.

It’d be nice to have all those posters insisting this wasn’t gonna happen come forward

Like the crowd who insisted Mulkey wasn’t coming, they’ll just disappear or never acknowledge they said it

same crowd who said Pelini and E wouldn't be fired/step down.

They actually think the publically reported funds that LSU brings in is how much money the athletic department has

Hopefully you are referring to me
I said I didn’t think he would be fired with the buyout, if he left it would be because he chose to

Hopefully having a say is one thing, making the actual final choice something potentially completely different. I don't want any coach that thinks/coaches like PM ever again.

I honestly thought LSU wouldn’t step on their dicks by laying off AD employees and reducing salaries while paying millions in buyouts. It’s bad optics, but this is LSU we’re talking about, the kings and queens of PR tone deafness.

Makes me a little emotional. He was a great coach and deserves to be remembered fondly. Definitely ready for the next chapter, but glad to have had Paul in the LSU dugout.

You weren’t the only one. I told you then that it would be a “forced” retirement.
