yes... he's staying with the team to the final out of the season... whenever that is

but this allows Woodward to start the search for his replacement now

How so? Just because he's a nice guy doesn't mean he shouldn't have gone a few years ago.

You mean right after a CWS runner up?

Which one?

17 as the CWS runner up?
18 after regionals?
19 after super regionals?

This press conference is nothing but a class act. He’s appreciative of the opportunity, acknowledged that he wasn’t able to coach to his potential the last few years, has pointed out the achievements of his players, and is making the decision for the betterment of the program. I have lots of respect for him.

Every single coach, player, and employee would do the same for a raise. If you don’t use leverage when you have it, you’re an idiot.

Class act presser. It’s obvious how his health affected him. Whether that’s the true reason or driving reason doesn’t matter. It has weighed on him no doubt. At a minimum it was a significant contributing factor.

The longevity of fairly consistent success considering the unrealistic expectation of the fan base and the overwhelming support from former players, it’s obvious he did a good job. And his sincerity of saying “he did his best” seems genuine.

With that being said, why does him announcing retirement trigger looking for a replacement. Seems like something that could have been done behind scenes even without the public announcement.
