OPs argument that this was a re-tooling year when we were preseason favorites for the natty and Heisman contender on top of that is downright retarded

We are supposed to be a top tier program. If players were leaving us for better programs, we would have a massive issue.

It ended up sucking and we fired the coach, so yes we scrapped the year and made changes. Re-tooling by definition, I never said it was planned that way.

And if you thought we’d contend this year you are the retarded one.

Time will tell if these players going to lateral programs will end up just being depth pieces. I suspect most of them will. Good teams need depth just like LSU does. A few will probably benefit from a change of scenery. It’s been a rough couple of years for many of these players.

These are pro players. If they sign elsewhere for more money; then it was a vertical move for them.

Nobody gaf about SECCG appearances or anything else anymore.

All of that is opinion. This program has little to show following its 2019 season. A SEC west crown? Ok. JD5 was great but as a program it has gone mostly nowhere.

Not actually taking a side here, but your argument does raise some questions:

1) why cut off since '19? We've got three National Championships in the last 25 years (including the '19 dream season). If you're going to insist those have zero bearing, that's fine; but it's at LEAST as arbitrary as the OP's assertions

2) what exactly do those other programs have to show since '19 that's better? OM's success is pretty clearly tied to Kiffin, and we have him now. So besides his success, what makes Ole Miss a move up, or even lateral? And as for A&M, they have a one-season outlier this year, and a lot of mediocre history the last couple of decades to go along with it. They've had two 10+ win seasons this millennium (including this year) and this is the first year they've even shared a division lead since they were a Big XII team. Tennessee has a great history, but since Fulmer retired they've only had a couple of 10 win seasons, and haven't won the SEC since '98. And if you're going to hang everything on "playoffs or nothing", fine: we won the CFP in '19, and none of them have ever won it. In fact, Ole Miss is the only one of them that has even won a game in the CFP, and as I mentioned above, we got their mojo.

LSU is clearly ahead of Ole Miss & A&M as a program. The only one that we can't claim clear superiority to is Tennessee, and that's only because of the extended history from last century. In modern terms, we are head and shoulders ahead of them.

And you could argue that these young kids don't care about anything before the last year or two, and you could be right. But that's not the assertion. The assertion is about whether the moves they are making are ACTUALLY lateral or upward moves, not whether the kids see it that way.

Okay, maybe I am taking a side.

I mean, players that did not play a snap going to P4 schools is notable. There has been some movement to other top SEC schools. Walter Mathis will end up with a contender, too.

OL Coen Echols to Texas A&M

Mathis will go to a top level team (Tenn?)

I’d like to think we are a top tier program. Leveling up would not leave you many or any options.

OM, aggy and tenner being lateral moves is debatable
at this point in time sure but they are not on lsu's level in the same way that LSU is not on Alabama, Georgia, or Ohio State's level. It's not like the cream of the crop are chomping at the bit to sign these guys.

I want you to reread this and come back to confirm you actually believe it.

I dont think I can ever look at a white bean the same again

To me it’s the bottom line. The program has been retrograde since 2019. I am not concerned what those other places are doing. Orgeron’s years following 2019 were disastrous. Kelly did nothing to advance the program as he was expected to do. All of this indicates a serious lack of leadership and vision much of which can be laid at the clay feet of the corpulent recent AD who now rivals Allleva in incompetence.

Hiring Verge inspires no confidence that things have changed, but the Kiffin hire could change that. Ausberry was involved in the coverup of one or more serious transgressions/crimes. He should have been fired. I said it then and stand by that.

Kiffin appears to have made some good acquisitions. Let’s see what has been done three years from now.

Cheers

And there is a fairly substantial body of evidence at this point.

Goes to show where our talent evaluation has been on the offensive side of the ball, in the shitter.

Im pretty sure Ole Miss just went to the Semi-Finals...

I think your perception of the state of LSU football is off. Hopefully we do get back there though.

Looks like the outgoing OL transfers faired well. Mostly vertical.
