Santos signed two-year deal with Baskonia and is returning to EuroLeague.
I love Will Wade but the Euro guys move was too risky and shouldn't have put too many eggs in that basket.
But also NCAA, there is already precedent that guys have played in EL and come to NCAA in the past
Sabonis
Vucevic
Jakucionis
just to name a few

What else was he supposed to do? He was transparent about his plan, and we all supported it when it seemed more likely to work out. I would rather him try to get us an elite roster for year 1 vs just signing another bunch of nobodies who will finish last in the league.

Didn't WW already tell us in his PC that Santos wasn't coming?

He did, Santos hasn't been a thing in over a month

He did. Said this was the only player that has not been practicing with the team and wouldn’t be a part of it.

I think it was announced about the same time that LSU signed the 7'3" Israeli Center Gilad Levy (who is 24

Why would Donovan Dent not be eligible?

Yea as usual people freaking out for zero reason. Wade said it that Santos wasn’t coming

Exactly. This is nothing new. Wade was asked at the press conference specifically about Santos last week. His response was Santos was not with the team and to ask the NCAA why he wasn’t cleared.

He’s already played 4 full seasons. Granted a TRO for a 5th season but was that before 5 for 5 went in effect?

Yeah but he never signed a pro contract right? I figure his TRO won't be overturned.

I honestly did see anything about Santos before.
Not freaking out. But do think putting all the eggs in that basket was still risky. I've said that from the jump. There was enough talent out there to mix and match. Just my opinion.

The ultimate is what do you want out of this season? A team that can just "mix and match"? Or a team that might be able to compete at the highest level?
Wade has been pretty transparent about the reason for his approach for anyone who actually took the time to listen (which is apparently very few LSU fans). Good international pros leaving their pro leagues to play US college basketball is a new phenomenon due to the fact that for the first time in history it can be more lucrative for a player to play college basketball that pro basketball overseas. The NCAA is working to close that loophole so next year won't look like this year. However, while that loophole remains somewhat open, Wade has chosen to try to exploit it to its limits with the hope being multiple experienced pros can perform well in CBB and help give LSU not just a "good" team, but one capable of competing with the top teams this year. Wade has said multiple times this is a one year deal to try to make LSU great this season.
IMO, part of the problem (besides just not paying attention) is many college fans can shake the old mindset of multi-year program building. That is not the world we live in now. It's one year teams that have to be built largely from scratch year to year. He's taking a risk with the hope it pays of THIS YEAR. Next year is going to be a new team built in a new manner.

The alternative was to be a shite team next year. The portal was picked over as were the high school guys.
Use your brains people.

Not at all. We could've invested all of our resources into keeping a few guys if we wanted to and working the portal. Wade was hired weeks before the portal opened. We chose to take a risk.
