Yet still couldn't beat Southeastern. See even good coaches lose games they should win. And yes he has talent equal to the worst team in the Big 10, Michigan, which is a doormat right now.
Technically, he beat SELA one time and lost to them one time. The best team they have played this entire season, they lost to. That is La Tech who is a decent team but not a gangbuster. Tech beat them by 10 I think. I still am amused that any poster would think beating Michigan is any good win. Hell, the vast majority of teams are beating Michigan and they have 0.00000% chance of getting into the NCAA tourney. My guess is Howard is gone after this season...acts too crazy sometimes and his teams are regressing over the years. 19-12...23-5...19-15...18-16 ...8-16 so far this season

Wade was a good coach and a great recruiter. You act like that is a negative statement but it is a fact.
You are beyond hope. Shouldn't be surprising since you have consistently called your opinion a fact.

There is no world where McNeese, one of the consistently worst basketball teams in the entire country, beats a Michigan. Nobody said Michigan was good. Nobody said they were a tournament team. But a down Michigan team should still beat a team of McNeese's caliber by just showing up.

McMahon doesn't recruit well which shows up with the mediocre talent that he puts on the floor. Remember those multiple guys that came with McMahon from Murray State? Only K J Williams was worth squat. The others couldn't play in the SEC yet they started for Murray State.
And really the 2nd and 3rd best players were a couple of forwards on his last Murray State team. One graduated and the other elected to stay.

McMahon has benched Cook a number of times for doing exactly what you are talking about. His team does compete and play hard. They are a few plays away from sweeping TAM and beating GA on the road. They have competed with the top teams in the league only to lose it in the last qtr of the games which is when the talent has taken over. McMahon is a good coach but not a great coach. Wade was the same. A good coach but not great. What set him apart was his ability to recruit. We’ll see if McMahon can sign his 2 big recruits next year and keep the core players coming back. Add a few portal players and next year should be a sign of whether he will be here for a while are be the beginning of the end. 1st year was a throw away so let’s see where he ends up this year .
All of this

Yeah he’s just starting to get SEC talent. But he out coached his peers at Murray state for years

You and I understand that Wade is a top flight coach, and a number of idiots on this board can't grasp that, or more likely, refuse to acknowledge it.
But make no mistake. Every single top basketball and football recruit has for DECADES received substantially more than room, board and tuition to attend the school of their choice.
That includes st. K at puke, Pitino, calipari wooden, on down the line.
I couldn't stand this SOB when he coached, and hope I'm wrong, but I believe the last coach to win big with a clean program was Knight at IU. I wouldn't bet on that either, though.

I hope you're right for LSU'S sake, but I don't think you are.

Not that it matters, but just curious … why do you think Knight’s program was clean?

To be fair so did every coach ever at Murray State.

Wade wasn't a great bench coach....

Based on what exactly?
If we say Wade is a very good, possibly great coach and use him as a benchmark here are the things that I think show McMahon is at least a good coach.
McMahon has won as many NCAA tournament games as Wade in one fewer trip.
He won the Ohio Valley Conference outright twice and tied for first 3 other times. Wade tied for first once at LSU and once at VCU.
He won his conference championship 3 times (Something Wade has not done to this point, though I expect him to this year).
McMahon's downfall at LSU may very well be imminent but if it is I believe it will be recruiting that kills him more than anything.

You are correct, Mac will rise and fall based on his recruiting. You have to coach and recruit, not one or the other.

If he can't get a team to "listen to coaching" or continuously improve, then doesn't that suggest he's NOT a good coach?

Wade overachieved compared to his recruiting. LSU didn't just simply out talent the SEC.
Love WW but this is just blatantly false. He had more top 10 recruiting classes than NCAAT wins at LSU.

Yep. That's why I prefer to say good or bad Head Coach as opposed to just coach. Winning helps recruiting so if he can start winning, recruiting improves but that is harder in the SEC than in the Ohio Valley Conference. I think a guy who can recruit well and coach just above mediocrity will probably outperform a really good coach with mediocre recruiting abilities more than half the time.

Just about every one of those recruits outperformed their ranking. Waters, Thomas, Watford, Reid, Days, bibgy-Williams, Eason and on and on. You guys act as if he was recruiting on the level of Kentucky but that isn’t true.

Our best NCAAT run was the Sweet 16 in which Wade wasn't even the coach... our talent wasn't elite but our assistant coach brings us to the best NCAAT run we had since Brady?? Our 2018 ranked number 4 recruiting class overperformed despite being a top 16 team in the country?
#4 ranked recruiting class going 19-10 in the regular season and only making it to the second round??? CLEARLY our talent OVERPERFORMED.

This is a very shaky belief I have about Knight. He struck me as a guy that recruited by the rules. I wouldn't bet a dime either way on this because I know what it takes to sign these kids.
By the way, I'm still pissed about how he banged the phone at the scorer's table against us in 1987 and got every motherflucking call (good and bad) for the rest of the game. If those refs had any backbone, we would have gone to consecutive final 4s as an 11 and 10 seed. There is no love for Bobby Knight from me.
I also am positive he couldn't coach today. These top players WOULD NEVER put up with his bs, and you have to be FILTHY in the recruiting game.

A lot of deflection in your post but the fact remains those players and more outperformed their ranking and you can go look at the other players in their classes to confirm it. For example Naz Reid was the 18th player in his class yet was top 8 in ppg and rpg. Just about every recruit had similar jumps vs their contemporaries.
