I took his comments like he was saying the quality of the players he got at LSU were so much better than what he gets at South Carolina
South Carolina is a top baseball program. There is no reason they can't get good talent.

Bruh. You can't say that to the media.
You can if you're not planning on being back next year.
Like many, I am hoping Paul has realized that coming back was a mistake and will go ahead and retire (again) as gracefully as he can manage now. His legacy was already solid before he even left LSU. He surely shouldn't feel like he has anything to prove, and I still appreciate that '09 Championship.

He underestimated how much easier it is to win at LSU than bum arse USCe

Not only has he only been out of coaching 3 years, but he was with the team a lot the last 3 years right? Seemed to always be at the stadium
This is my line of thinking too. How could he not know how good the conference was? He's been hanging around the program in some capacity since he left, and has he not seen how many SEC teams have gotten national seeds, been to Omaha, made the finals, and won natties the last few years?
Gotta think his bosses can't be thrilled to hear him admit this when I'm sure a big reason he got the job in the first place was because he coached in the SEC before and therefore would understand what it takes to compete in this league.

I don’t believe it’s just Portal and NIL. Paul was in the process of retiring when MLB went to 20 rounds instead of 40. That certainly changed the landscape of HS recruits available (coupled with the reduction in drafting HS pitchers). Now tack on the Portal and NIL and, yes Paul, players do look a lot different, especially in the SEC.

Between Covid, NIL, and the transfer portal, yes.
The MLB draft is also smaller now causing some fringe guys to stay in school and pushing the overall age of the teams higher.
Everything combined and not only the conference but the whole sport is very different from the last time Paul coached.
Now for him to claim he didn’t realize it is asinine. He was still around the LSU program before he took the South Carolina job. There’s no way he couldn’t see what was going on.

He did this during his whole LSU career!

We all knew maneri thought the ideal baseball prospect was 5'8 150 lbs. Looks like he forgot weight training now exists in high schools. Sad to see him go out this way!
The most shocking thing was when he talked about how he was surprised how big some of his recruits were when they got to campus. Like he didn’t even know what they actually looked like until they showed up for practice… dude was completely checked out

Texas is at the top of the league right now and they lost 2/3 to OU.
Either I’m not understanding that correctly but Texas hasn’t played OU yet and also Texas hasn’t lost a series yet this year.

He should have ever been hired and the AD there should be fired

all I remember was Beloso having a nice fr year and the next year looked totally lost at the plate Beloso had to see a therapist to regain his swing
Don’t tell this to our resident baseball expert/homosexual love expert burreauxxx. According to him, Jay Johnson inherited a ready-made CWS championship caliber roster in which Jay had to do no work nor coaching in order to win a championship.

I think he meant South Carolina lost 2/3 to OU. And Texas, who they haven't played, is in 1st place. 2 teams that weren't in the conference the last time Paul was coaching.

He under estimated his ability to recruit, compete in NiL and inspire his coaches and team. He knew the SEC was hard for Gods sake. These blame others quotes are poison for USC baseball

Has the league changed that drastically in 3 years?
There’s this thing called the transfer portal and nil now, so yeah, I’d say it’s changed a fair amount

"They" in that is USC
Texas is at the top of the league and they (USC) lost 2/3 to OU. This was in response to someone mentioned the league added 2 good teams since when Mainieri was here.
