There’s a whole lot of fail in this thread. Anyone thinking Jay Johnson isn’t pissed over ranking 13th in the SEC in revenue sharing hasn’t spoken with the man in the last few months. And it isn’t about some practice facility building or upgrades to Alex Box. It’s revenue sharing PERIOD.

NIL is a different animal and that is being addressed. But to be clear, it was Woodard who called him while he was preparing to coach his team for his second national championship and told him that really low number in money. Only after the win did that number increase but still way behind our competitors in the SEC.

Carpetbaggers??? Dang. Am I the only one who’s heard that term besides you??

Yep - this could be the negotiating commuter plane. Not that large of a PJ only fitting 6 or 7 people. But pretty efficient one. If we get a whale of a coach we better fly him back to BR in a Global XRS or something a little more comfortable

That’s a Honda Jet. If they roll up to the FBO in that, Saban just might turn around and get back in his car…..

and it’s headed back to BTR as we speak.

NIL is not dead at all. Why do you think that?

It’s not dead Chicken, but he’s not completely off base. NIL must now pass through a clearinghouse where the value will be vetted. Contrary to popular belief, NIL must have value. As of last school year, no one looked. Well, they’re looking now.

I was at a fundraiser with Coach Johnson a few weeks ago. We were told even the money given to the Coaches Committee was not going to go to players like it did last year. Most of the conversation revolved around trying to determine how we approach more big spenders in Louisiana to get them to provide NIL deals that will pass muster.

When there are other jobs offering me the same or something similar? No. I would choose a place in which I know who I am reporting to. And it likely wouldn’t be a place where the CEO has a history of publicly bad mouthing employees.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. You’re spot on.

OP may be a hysterical drama queen, but the fact is the situation as it now stands wrt college athletics, and more particularly college football, is not good and in all likelihood not sustainable in any manner resembling this current incarnation.

I think a lot of people have their heads in the sand toward this fact.

And it's not what he said about Landry and the LSU football HC so much but what he said about Ellison and the $10M to a HS quarterback. I guess when you are worth north of $300B, you think the FTC, IRS and DOJ no longer exist. This whole NIL debacle is just that.

Bottom line, once the FTC, or heaven forbid the DOJ, starts making phone calls about $10M Zero value NIL deals, watch those high rollers slam their checkbooks shut.

To be fair, this all started when states started telling their university presidents to start planning for the Zero state contribution day. At this point, 15-20 years later, many states give little to no state money to the institutions that bear their name.

A WSJ or Forbes article (I can’t remember which) that ran about 12 years ago showed how Alabama significantly upped their incoming Freshman average GPA and ACT/SAT scores just by offering full rides or no in state tuition to highly qualified students throughout the country. These students saw the football team on national TV over and over. It put them on the map as it were. There was a clear cut advantage the article, and the University President clearly outlined. What does that get them?? GRANT MONEY. Read, free money.

TLDR: Universities need MONEY. ANYTHING the gives them an advantage, read free advertising on a national level, is desired.

But I agree. Only a fool can’t see the bubble.
Your ideas are actually well thought out. I completely agree with you. However, there are some differences.

The NFL has a CBA. No such thing exists in CFB.

The NFL and their sponsors must play by the FTC rules governing endorsements and sponsorships (established decades ago). For now, the FTC (and IRS for that matter) has been rather quiet. But don’t be fooled by people who say otherwise. The Feds are watching. Oracle does not and never will receive “benefits” by giving a HS QB $10M. They just won’t. There must be value.

The schools don't pay the Revenue Sharing nor do they pay coaches salaries nor do they pay NIL (which now must pass through a clearinghouse).

The NFL teams receive money from tickets and royalties from merchandise, which, if you ask me, should be what NIL truly is. Tell every player, you’ll get a royalty check for every jersey, mug etc etc that is sold. PERIOD.
That jet has been at LFT for over 2 weeks.

Mercedes and Ferrari dealerships in Nashville

Serious?? Ferrari is SO inclusive. I find it hard to believe they’d let one of their owners have a part in a competitor’s business. Just saying from what I know about Ferrari.

And I can see why it wouldn’t be a Porsche dealership with Saban.

My Aggie player mom friend just texted me that everyone is super nice. You bastards already gave up or something?

I literally laughed out loud. Restaurant people all looked at me. That is hilarious!!

Happy Birthday too!!!!
I suspect LSU is like all the other major schools with maybe a few exceptions.

I’ll give an example. If I walk in the door of the TAF with a $30,000 check and ask “what do I get now?, the answer would be a good slap on the back and an “atta boy”. If walked in the door with a $300,000 check, they would give me a pair of the few season tickets they have (baseball).

Over the course of 30 years, I had football season tickets. At the end of that run, my total donation excluding the cost of the tickets was north of $100,000. Neither LSU nor the TAF ever acted or published anything suggesting or giving evidence that that level of money meant anything to them.

TLDR: the ROI is a warm cozy feeling that you helped support winning programs.

if it was still like before with no NIL and no transfers sure. he can coach at right now. he is in great shape for almost 74. it was looking like he woulda ended up like paterno and bowden had NIL not ruined it for him.

This is the answer to me. NIL is in the process of changing. The 2026 season will see the return to the “old ways” in my opinion. Maybe he will come back for a few years. I believe top talent would line up down the block to play here.

I was told that the percentages of that $20.5 million from LSUAD to the players could change every year. LSU Baseball had plenty of dedicated NIL and did not need more than 2% of the LSU funds this season. Who knows for 26-27.

It’s not going to be enough. So many fans are forgetting that NIL is regulated now. All NIL money must pass through a clearinghouse before given to a player. The money given must have value to the one giving it. Trust me. Oracle receives NO financial benefit by giving some QB $10M. None!!! That doesn’t fly any more. Even the coaches committee is worthless in giving money to the TAF for “baseball” with the money going to the players. Ain’t happening any more. It must come from an entity that receives benefit by sponsoring said player.

Think about it. Nike gave Michael Jordan a ton of money over the years. BUT, Nike made way more than they ever gave Michael.
