Going to have to reel in some more if we really expect and significant improvement. A lot of our scoring is gone from a team that struggled to do so. We need more bigs.

You think 8th place classes win the sec? That’s back half of the league and we were the absolute worst team in the league last year.

Wtf do you expect? The #1 class? And they are not done

I think - for me - we should expect 9-9 SEC.

That is also my thought. My main concern with the transfers out is the loss of Phillips, I thought he might be able to provide some rim protection. Looks like that will have to come from Jalen Reed or Derek Fountain, would have been nice have a 7 footer.

But I think Jalen Cook is a really good pickup, probably as good as any guard we lost. Can't decide about Jordan Wright yet.

Cory Chest and Mike Williams are HS kids and those are always a bit of a crap shoot, not sure what I expect from them.

I will tamp down any expectations that pop above .500 in the SEC until LSU starts the SEC schedule, I learned a lesson this season about a new coach/mostly new team.

My biggest problem with MM recruiting, or lack thereof, is playing out before us …
Jordan Wright ….. Jalen Cook …. Carlos … fine. Sure. Decent enough players …

These are all local guys who are being brought back … local connections previous to MM…. Being done for MM …. Where is HIS recruiting mark? Where are his recruiting nuts? I see none.

He doesn't have any recruiting juice, and it doesn't look much like his assistants do, either.

After the A&M game it looked like he knew his team got exposed and there was nothing he could do to fix it, and he just kind of gave up.

Like, "I got this all wrong with the guys I recruited."

Very bad look during that losing streak.

I'm good with trying to fix that by clawing back the in-state kids, except there aren't enough of them to fix the problem.

But to put this thing right you need a star player. You need a Chris Jackson or a John Williams. None of the names out there look like that.

If I was Woodward I would have put out feelers to see if a superstar coach could be bought for $6-8 million and maybe that would generate some interest from stud players.

Maybe McMahon will prove me wrong. But if we're home again with a losing record this time next year I doubt it'll ever get better with him.

Just because a kid enters the Portal does not mean he won't be back at LSU next fall. JFYI..

As of now your ceiling is that you rack up non-conference wins against an easy schedule with a veteran team made up of a bunch of transfers, and then you try to win 7-8 games in the SEC on your way to the NIT.

And that's the ceiling. Which honestly is depressing. LSU's athletic program in every other sport is so far ahead of men's hoops it's unbelievable, and frankly I'm tired of waiting on these people to get it right

I find it hard to even start to argue against that. I wish I could, though. (Almost)Every other program at LSU is competing for a national championship or is very close to it. Basketball isn't close, which really sucks because it's the second most important sport at every other school. The Gymnastics program, (which is great year after year,) shouldn't draw more fans than men's basketball. Bringing up women's basketball seems like overkill, so I won't even mention it.

It's a little depressing, honestly. I'm not sure what the pitch is to recruits. Success begets success, but failure breeds failure. NIL money will have to be stacked high to get a pivotal player to get some momentum going. There is no wind in the sail right now.

Regardless of where it stands in the SEC, bringing in two sub-100 recruits isn’t going to move the needle.

Our best option at this point is getting some more decent pulls from the transfer portal and praying McMonotone learned some valuable lessons last season that he can correct.

I’m not optimistic, but will still hang on to some hope.

Also, we really the need NCAA ruling on our case to be issued. It’s a lingering cloud that isn’t helping.

Not even worried about it. Either we make massive improvement or McMahon won’t see year 3

I'm not going to try to defend McMahon in recruiting but I will say that his two best recruits at Murray State that I know of seem to have been guys who were not even rated out of HS. I don't know what that means but it would seem to mean one of 3 things (or some combination of them).

1. He or a staff member, one who may very well not be at LSU now, is good at identifying undervalued players.

2. He is incredibly lucky in recruiting.

3. He is good at developing players to their full potential (let me say that a coach can do this and still be a bad game coach).

Unfortunately for MM, basketball is not a game that lends itself to patience, at least not any longer, when it comes to winning or even righting the ship. It is also true that you can "build programs" still in mid-major and lesser conferences. But WW was right when he said those days are over, at least that is true in major conferences. You have to build the team, this year's team.

Next year will be a telling year. I worry because some of what is going on looks like building a program rather than a team. The proof will be in next year's SEC pudding, so to speak.

I am hoping when all the new players are assembled we can target 7 SEC wins next year. Not sure how anyone can expect anything better. The development of Ward, Fountain, and Reed will be something to watch for.

Really cMM's tenure doesn't start until after the NCAA board makes it decision late this summer and MM will have to be evaluated on the 2024 and 2025 freshmen classes as well as who he gets in the portal next year. Likely you can't even look closely at the 2024 class as the sanction question won't be resolved until a few months before signing day.

So if we snag Baker(A top 30 player in 2019 from Texas) and Amaree Abrams( Top 150 in 2022 player from Texas), that wouldn’t be good enough?

That’s not how this works, that’s not how any of this works.

In the days of NIL and the transfer portal, nobody gets 3-4 years to figure it out. The NCAA investigation has very little impact on recruiting, especially in the portal.

Hell, Wade signed solid classes and got really good talent from the portal while the investigation and allegations were pending. Also, he kept us competing at the top of the league and had us in the tournament. Does that mean he was just that much better than MM?

This also shows how little you know about the process. Once the IARP releases its decision, it’s final with no appeal. Will likely be released well before the fall early signing period.

7 wins?!?! That’s your expectation in year 2. What an absolute joke.

Educate us. What are your expectations and give reasons you have confidence.
Being ranked 8th in recruiting, added to the worst team in the SEC, means what?
