I was raised as an LSU fan in Kentucky from the late 60s to the mid-80s when I finally got to leave and attend LSU. I hated UK more than anything. Basketball was the end-all-be-all to them and Dale Brown could hand them their arse just as often as not. They were freaking insufferable!

The day I got my acceptance letter from LSU, Dad came home from work and looked me dead in the eye and told me, "Marc, I'm proud of you and I'm proud that you are going to school at my Alma Mater, but we need to have a talk.

"You can still hate Kentucky if you want to, but they're not really relevant in a real sport. So I want you to repeat after me.

Dad: "Geaux"

Me: "Geaux"

Dad: "To"

Me: "To"

Dad: "Hell" (at this point I am concerned because my dad NEVER cussed, not even in the slightest.)

Me: "Hell?" (With a questioning look.)

Dad: "Ole Miss!"

Me: "Ole Miss?"

Dad: Now yell it as loud as you can with all the conviction in your heart!

Me: "GEAUX TO HELL OLE MISS!!!"

Dad: "There, now! Doesn't that feel good?!"

And thus my LSU indoctrination was complete.

Got nothin' for Ole Miss or the State. They just are not relevant to anything.
The only thing that is even mildly interesting is their inexplicably pretentious and embarrassing celebration in The Grove. And they do not have the self awareness to understand how sad this is.
But that's about it.

I started going to the games in 1966. That was 7 years removed from Billy Cannon and a few years before Archie Manning and Bert Jones. Back then, LSU-Ole Miss was the biggest rivalry in the SEC (Tulane had just left) and maybe the country. Now many other rivalries have taken its place.

Ole Miss was a bitter rival over 50 years ago when they were elite. They really haven't been consistently relevant for a half century. That's why the "rivalry" and hatred has faded. Personally, I couldn't care less about Ole Miss, and I'm old enough to remember the Archie Manning years when the rivalry was still real.

I put the Ole Miss Landsharks in the same class as Tulane...I feel sorry for them...pity them...don’t view them as much of a threat. Their claim to fame...tailgating at the Groove...is also a joke.

Every home game until late October ended with this chant as fans left the stands back in the day. It’s a shame there really hasn’t been a replacement.

MissSt is the farm hand you invite to dinner. He's a little uncouth, but he's good people.

OleMiss is the doorman at the whore house.

I like State and its fans.
OM fans think they are somebody because daddy is a doctor in Tupelo, an accountant in Jackson or a State Farm agent in Natchez.

100% this. Fortunately outside of northern MS, there are more State fans than UM

Like them or not, Ole Miss is a major SEC necessity. Culturally speaking. The history, the colors and their real mascot. It’s what the SEC is. Let’s compare A&M. Yes they are annoying and have some strange traditions that we all mock. But if SJWs tried to change all of that, you’re dang right I’d be defending them the same way I defend the rebels. This is the SEC. we are all built on tradition. Rivalries are rivalries. Leave that mess on the field.

Oh yeah, you forget that we are LSU? Everyone hates us. Especially now. You think it’s bad in Mississippi? Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida and Georgia are all full of tiger haters. They hate a winner.

I f you have lived outside Louisiana and Mississippi you to forget the rivalry. Ole Miss has had little relevance since Johnny Vaught was coaching Archie Manning.
Living in Tn, I've learned to hate TN worse than Ole Miss. Haven't hated TN since Saban showed how to win.

Living in MS, I grew up with a lot of Ole Miss fans who really didn't seem like fans, unless they somehow beat LSU. Then, they would kinda just drop by to say hi randomly. Once the 2000's came, the fandom really started to disappear. Later, I saw more than one of them out in the past 10 years wearing Alabama clothes, bumper stickers, and even flags on their car. I had an awkward conversation with one in particular. I asked when he became a bama fan, and he turned completely red and stuttered something about being born near uncles who lived in Alabama, or something ridiculous like that. I laughed and said good look buying new clothes when the next flavor of the week gives LSU a challenge.

On a different note, State fans are nothing like that.
