He was also close to Doug Nussmeier—(new QB coach at Dallas)
Nussmeier’s son Garrett is a one of top Texas quarterback prospects for 2021. Coach O wants him. His football knowledge & leadership skills are off the charts.

my only question would be his ability to recruit

Same here, but his ties to Pete Carroll and the legion of boom coupled with his personality leads me to believe he’d be a damn good recruiter. Would be a damn good hire.

my only worry would be is he just trying to find a job to springboard back to the nfl

If you hire a good coordinator, you're not hiring him forever.

Talked to my brother who is a big Cowboys fan and understands the organization/chaos there
1) as a poster already stated, he is "defensive passing game coordinator" which my brother and the poster both said is a Jerry Jones invention title
2) the regular DC Marinelli was the guy my brother said oversaw the defense during the week but it was Richard who really was the game day DC
3) my brother's main complaint about the Cowboys defense is that apparently they think it is against NFL rules to cause a turnover. Also, more was expected of the Cowboys defense with the amount of talent they have but just like every other team, the number of injuries is an issue...they have had injuries particularly at LBer this season

Dallas was hit with injuries at DL (Crawford and 1-2 others), Vander Esch and I think they had a lot of banged up DBs too.

Their D went down a lot when Crawford and Vander Esch were out.

Yeah, I don't see how this is a homerun hire.

Not saying it wouldn't work out, but I don't see it as some slam dunk thing

I definitely trust O over some idiot on a message board.

I'm willing to bet money you also thought Joe Brady wouldnt amount to anything at LSU.

He was the Defensive passing game coordinator for Dallas. Not sure how that's different from Offensive Passing game coordinator.

Well this board is full of retarded idiots so there’s that. Glad none of these fools are responsible for hiring.

When he became our DC is when the defense started taking a noticable decline. Hes a good DB coach, he was not good as our DC. People are giving him too much credit. And look at Sherman and Thomas, they're still producing at high levels at other places without him too.
Its blowing my mind that so many people on here think this is a "homerun" hire after spending 2 years wanting him gone from the Seahawks.

potential conflict with corey raymond given his db background? i.e. how would corey perceive this hire if he also has sights on DC role?

When will y’all realize being subpar in the nfl has no bearing on what he would do in college?

He’s not going against nfl QBs week in and out

As the defensive coordinator for the 2015 Seattle Seahawks Richards defense ranked first in points allowed for the season.

Make that ranked first in points allowed for seasons 2012-2015, ranked 3rd in 2016. Then began to fall off due to injuries as the DB's got older.

quote:

Of all the coaching moves the Seahawks have made so far this offseason – and even of those that may still be to come — the one that on the surface has seemed the least explainable is the firing of defensive coordinator Kris Richard. True, the Seahawks’ defense fell off in Richard’s third year as DC — to 13th in points allowed after ranking first every year from 2012-15 and then third in 2016. But much of that appeared attributable to the injuries that hit the defense as well as the inconsistency of an offense that too often did little to keep the opposing offense off the field.

Just hire the man, he coaches safeties along with being DC, and Raymond coaches the CB's.

A Cowboy-LSU pipeline. Might have something here. Maybe the Cowboys can find out how to win a championship.
