You can easily pull one of the three “go tigers”sequences out, but it won’t really help much. The entire cheer is 12 seconds long (per the YouTube video I just watched). So pull one segment out and now you’re at 9 seconds. Pull two (which would be a bit awkward sounding) and you’re at 6.

The big problem is the initial windup. Have a spotter on the 50 talking into the ear of the director telling them when and what to play and I think you can do more good.

Right. As a former TGBFTL member, Tiger band should be at the ready at all times.

In my opinion, moving the band to the end zone, while a better spot for the overall stadium atmosphere, was detrimental to their perspective of down and distance. I’m not even sure if they can see the markers or the refs signaling from their vantage point. Is there a booth spotter? I don’t know. But I’m sure there’s a potential solution here without disallowing the band to play. Everyone has been screaming about piped-in music the past 10 years or so, and how it was cutting out band music. Now y’all want to cut more? Let’s slow down and let the adults in charge of logistics figure this out.

Also, when did Lane say this? I haven’t heard this and would like to hear/read his exact words for myself.

They don't even play many of the traditional songs from the past. It's not the same band. And not better.

It takes 11 seconds to play that tune. Add a few seconds for it register with the band director then another five seconds before they start playing. That's 18 seconds. In a hurry up offense, the typical time from the end of the play to the snap is 10–15 seconds in a typical, effective, hurry-up tempo offense. So, yeah. Timing is everything.

i was in tigerband a long arse time ago - 4 years. while i was there, they introduced the second down song. a variation of 'tequila'. i've literally ALWAYS loathed that $&$ing song. i hate the idea that there has to be a jingle after every down.

the bands sounded awful on tv - not because the bands actually sound awful but because the location of microphones picks up individual players and not the band as a whole. it was really irritating, sounded like a high school game.

Does it have to be every first down? If the ball is down field for a big gain you know you have more time before the ball is spotted and players are lined up. Just play it on big plays when there is obvious time available

2nd and 1, gain of 2 for a first down...scratch it.

Keeps the band active, tradition going, but adapts from the days of the huddle.

You would think this would be right up Wade Rousse’s alley, to conduct a nationwide search for the best band director possible AND return the band to the athletic department.
