He was clearly frustrated with the band and the first down song. He wants it quiet so his players can hear. I wonder what he’s gonna do about it.

Nobody messes with the first down cheer.

What is it going to take to get a drum major who understands when LSU picks up a first down?

You win games 51-10 against P4 opponents you can do whatever you want.

The band can easily shorten the first down cheer to accommodate the offensive team's tempo. Everybody's happy

TGBFTL sounds so murky these days. That clear crisp sound of 20 years ago is long gone. They sound more like a high school band.

Amen!!
He can do anything in the world that he wants as long as he’s taking care of business. Name it and it’s anything

I noticed that too. The Band has to figure it out. Maybe switch to something four notes long?

If Lane says no presnap music then that’s what’s going to happen. He demands every possible competitive advantage.

The problem is the band is really really slow. The ball carrier gets a first and the band has a solid 5 seconds before they start

Is the band really necessary after pregame?

Band spotter in the booth must have been new on Saturday. Slow and more than 5 times it was wrong (didn’t get first down and we are playing the cheer).

The band needs to shut up unless it is a change of possession or time outs.

There was at least one time the band was still playing and the players were "set" for about 3 to 4 seconds and I was yellling at the TV saying, "What is the band doing".

I guarantee Lane will change that with the quickness.

This exactly.

I sit fairly close to the band and have seen this in action.

The drum major turns and looks for the first down signal on the field or waits to hear it from the PA announcement ("first down for the Tigers").

Then the band members have to react to the ready signal from the drum major and play the notes when signaled.

The whole process can be quickened and done well before it would affect the offense. Everyone in the band just needs to realize that they have to be ready to play sooner with the way the offense quickly gets back to the line.

I love that everything bothers Lane. You can tell he gets OCD over everything. He's a perfectionist you can see it. You know who else is like that at LSU? CJJ. He's never satisfied and always look for something to improve on. That's the type of coach you want.

They had to play it 38 times. Look I was in the band and to be honest the first down chant isn’t needed honestly. And as far as lane operates I can understand where it can be a distraction.

La Tech is literally the “perfect” game to try something new

They often started the first down song when it was still 2nd and 1 or 2. He is right. They need to get their sh*t straight, but keep it loose.

Just speed up the tempo of the song.
