I can’t believe it’s even being discussed. Don’t do it if it interferes with the teams tempo . I mean the football game is more important than anything

Head GBFTL Director

The whole process can be quickened and done well before it would affect the offense. Everyone in the band just needs to realize that they have to be ready to play sooner with the way the offense quickly gets back to the line.
We were always ready.

The entire Tiger Band conglomeration has been steadily regressing in every phase ever since Wickes (RIP) retired and Moorhouse abruptly resigned and bolted to Illinois. (2016)

Express your concerns to:

Simon Holoweiko. (Associate Director of Bands and Head GBFTL Director)

I'd love to see this happen, but Damon Talley and the LSU School of Music will never allow it.

If the president of the university decreed it, Damon Talley would not have a choice.

Well, to be fair to the band, the last four years they were used to a very slow offense and head coach in Brian Kelly that burned through all three timeouts in the first five minutes. Now with CLK, the offense is like a Ferrari on the Audubon or as I saw posted about Sam running the ball, the offense is like a squirrel who abuses Adderall lol

Been this way forever. They all have managed. That is one of the things that makes the LSU games so fun is all the different cheers for different on the field success. Something for 1st downs, defense forcing a 4th down, TD's, etc.
So much better than hearing Boomer Sooner for every little thing on the field or the USC trojan march thing for everything.

The band will adjust and get in on the alignment.

We need to return back to the golden band being the best in the land. It’s a long way from being the best

TGBFTL sounds so murky these days. That clear crisp sound of 20 years ago is long gone. They sound more like a high school band

Noticed that last year. They’ve slipped a lot. My kids high school band sounds better.

It’s an adjustment for sure.

I think the first down cheer can be shortened to one “Geaux Tigers” but the band needs to start that shite immediately.

There were several occurrences of delays Saturday night, even on Dixon’s call.

Noticed the band being unusually slow on the first down cheer.

I chuckled to myself early in the game that we were in a new era. LSU made a FD and the ball was spotted immediately and was on the LOS calling the play.

The band cranked out like two notes and had to stop…

I’m sure he wants them to play neck. Did that happen Saturday?

To be fair, I noticed several times that it was delayed on the TV broadcast as well (didn’t show first down until they were about to snap the ball).

It seems like ever since they changed the clock rules, officials have been a lot more focused on getting the ball spotted above all else. Wouldn’t shock me to find out that’s something they get graded on - amount of game clock elapsed waiting on spots.

I just watched a couple of plays out of curiosity. There was one in the 1st quarter where Green went out of bounds very close to a first down but the official spotted the ball about a foot short. The band started playing the first down song before the official even marked the spot. It wound up being second down (so the band guessed wrong), and the band still only finished the song like 3 seconds before the next snap. If they had actually waited for the spot, there’s no way they would have finished the song before the snap.

Just playing devil’s advocate for everyone saying the band should be ready. I don’t think it’s that simple. They could stop playing anything at all on close calls, only play when the result is clear, and start the song every time before the ref marks the spot. It wouldn’t matter.. they’d still be playing while the next play call goes in and they’d still be playing right up to the snap. It’s the nature of the beast with the tempo Lane wants to run. It’s just a different era.

The current director, Dr Holoweiko, was originally hired as the assistant TB director after a nation-wide search. When the previous director was ousted that assistant director was elevated to the director role.

quote:

For a few years they had a director who had actually never been in charge of a college marching band. His experience was at the high school level.

This is technically true but misleading. Dr Jones had been a GA Under Roy for a number of years and after Roy was ousted and Dr Illnas took over Dr Jones became the assistant director and then 2 years later became the director when Dr Illnas left for the Oregon Director of Bands job

frick all of you.

They just need to kick it off faster and up the tempo a bit. There’s absolutely no reason to throw out something we’ve been doing for 40+ years rather than adjust.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe this for an instant. LSU promoted from within because it was the easiest and cheapest thing to do, and it allowed the SOM executive level staff to maintain their control over Tiger Band.

I'm not saying that Dr. Holoweiko isn't qualified, but after all of the shenanigans that LSU SOM has pulled over the years, I don't believe for a second that they did a nationwide search to replace Dr. Jones.
