I caught about 5 minutes of his show yesterday and noticed how he was very specific about Guillorys progression. He said he expects Guillory to hit the stat sheet for tackles this year. Not only does Guillory hold the point of attack he handles the blocker enough to see the ball and get it. That would be great. Last year our front three/ four did not play the run well. Just having a lineman that can stop a runningback for minimal gains is gonna be nice. Another poster said Jones finally got quicker. We needed that to happen too.. ..all this to say im EXCITED to see the defense play ball.

It looks like the combination of mental maturity and elite coaching have paid off. Now let’s see it on the field. This year may not have the talent as last year in the trenches but they have elite coaching, motivation and a will to fight. A coach will always be limited by the ceiling of his players but another level can be achieved by getting the ceiling out of the sum of the part. If a coach has done his job right, this defense can be respectable. That is what we all hope to see Sunday.

Yeah, thats right. I dont often see Kelly being that specific. We desperately need one of the lineman to step up. We may have one or 2 that have.

Relax. OP is quoting our head coach saying something positive at a very thin position. Simply that.

You can see JG has definitely transformed his body into an upper-echelon college-looking DT. Now if his play follows, it will be a tremendous boost for our DEF. I like what CBK said at his presser about the DTs: 'We just need to do our jobs up front, and if we do that, and we’re one-11th of our defense with our tackles, in particular, we’re going to be fine.'

I believe the strength of our DEF is our DEs & LBs. Do your job DTs, just do your job, and let the play-makers around you really impact the game with their speed & athleticism. Can't wait to see this unit put it together Sunday night!

He looks great and was already strong as an ox.

I’m pretty sure his high school weight lifting numbers were insane. I can’t imagine what he could do now

There’s no Tiger I’m pulling harder for this year than Jacobian Guillory. He’s come a long way.

I'm happy to hear all that but I'm concerned about the unsportsmanlike penalties he's been known for. I put the over/under for a game at 1.5 and the season at 3.5.

Hope I'm wrong...

JG has always had the strength and size to be a top interior d lineman and this is his money year. Plus these guys had no d line coach last year and a DC that evidently didn’t give a shite about his job. Glad to see JG is reaching his potential.

Until we develop some more depth inside (hopefully in-season), he’s one of the most important players on the entire team. Not even close to a top 5 best player on the team, but may be just behind Nuss as most indispensable. When he went down with a knee that day, I was sick to my stomach.

If you have been a football fan for a long time you've seen every year there are players who really blossom in their 3rd, 4th years. Hopefully JG is one of those and we find a few others.

I NEVER trust coaches heaping praise on a player at a position group that looked, on paper, like a big weakness.

It smells like a coach trying to cover up for a weakness.

That’s not a knock on Guillory. He’s likely to be the best we have.

Well I’ve been fooled by the preseason coach hype too many time now. I don’t care what the coaches try to say anymore, as far as I’m concerned the defense is still bad and will probably get cooked by the USC offense due to lack of difference makers on the field.

I hope to God they prove me wrong though.

Remember last year for a couple of games straight Matt House had the DL lined up at the LOS like they were playing Canadian football? lol... T-Bob went on a crazy rant about it.

I would be happy to just have our DE's turn plays inside instead of always being sucked inside with a ball fake. That would be a serious upgrade from the last two years.
