Neither of those are as good as Kelly but he might never see the success they had here . Can you imagine Les Miles still trying to figure out the forward pass in 2024? Yes, his teams were tough, but usually undisciplined. And Les only got more stubborn and indignant.
Pre-2019 Coach O would actually crush it in this age of transfer/NIL if he was locked in. He was a relentless and shady recruiter going back to his Miami days. Unfortunately after 2019 he was like a guy who hit the lottery and never wanted to work again.
The problem is the game has changed. Kelly is/was good at building a program and culture. Coaching 4-5 year guys and having smart but not really physical football teams. Thats an outdated skill set now, since recruiting studs and filling holes with transfers is the name of the game now.
He's here now, but im wondering if its not a great fit in the dog eat dog SEC.

Ed was great in living rooms and the actual “boots on the ground” part of recruiting.
As far as roster management is concerned, he was abysmal.

prior to him being in the running for the gig, he's never once said anything publicly about loving LSU.
in fact there was an article written in one of the Louisiana papers (forget which one) about Ed in 2014 (the year he was unemployed).
And it was basically a love letter to USC. While in Hammond attending his son's HighSchool games he was fawning over USC and LSU wasn't mentioned a single time in the article.
