I remember them coming to tailgates and selling stuff
Being profoundly hammered I paid for many half pints and scratchy lotteries instead of football equipment

I have bought many a magazine subscription that I didn't want. But that seems to be a thing of the past.

But, seriously…when people brought those boxes into work and left them in the break room to sell for their kids…did you ever pass it up?
That's a bit different. I know the parents. I buy from my co-workers that sell for their kids.
I get a shitload of girl scout cookies and popcorn on re-order every year

Some kids came to my door asking to sell snickers for football team. They had jerseys on, which didn't match team or colors, and mama was on the street behind them and she looked disheveled and potentially intoxicated. I kindly chatted it up with them about what positions they play and for what team and it was clear that it was all made up. The mama caught on and yelled at them to move on to the next house before I even said no. Kids were being forced to do it, they had no joy. It was really sad.
This was when I lived in my first home near the hood.
Sure enough neighborhood facebook group had people saying this same lady brings kids all over to do this. Different stories and times of year, etc.
For the last 3-4 years while tailgating at LSU, I have at least 5 different groups of kids coming around that just walk under the tents trying to get $5 for a candy bar. Usually see an older kid or mother of some sort standing close by. And these kids look like they haven't changed their clothes in several days. Very sad. And I hate to say it's incredibly annoying telling a kid every 30 minutes that I don't have any money.

Some SJW will cry racism for this
No they won't. Why would this be a race issue? Nearly every school on earth sells this shite.

I loved them, but they always seemed to get smaller and more expensive. Signing athletes to NIL deals will likely continue that trend.

I was on my HS varsity tennis team in 11th grade and we sold Snickers, 50 cents apiece. I always ended every week owing myself about 5 bucks because I’d reach under my desk and just start noshing in Algebra II class every day.

Didn't we all?

With all the scams out there, I often felt like the World's Finest Chocolate Box coming around meant there probably was something legit to the kids doing the fundraising. It's hard not to support kids working to fund their team and I've always enjoyed the chocolate as well. This is actually an NIL that could probably do some good.

And now you know why candy bars and soft drinks were really removed from SNAP, but that’s for a different board.
