I bought a Sony STR-AN1000 in Jan 2024 for $699. I just looked, and it's $1049 now. Ouch. Anyway, I love this for my 5.1 setup. It has a very easy setup using a microphone to set all the levels. It was a big step up from an expensive 10 year old Pioneer that went belly up. You may be able to find a used one for a better deal.

re: Career change to IT

Systems analysts typically have a skill set applied to a larger system. For example, many analysts have database admin and SQL skills. Those are used to manage the system and support reporting, etc.

You need to decide what area of IT you want to pursue and build appropriate foundational skills. IF you try to go into IT because "you like to build computers", you'll end up on the Tier 1 help desk as a best case scenario.

I'd suggest using your financial background to go into a technical role in that department. Every accountant I've ever worked with was amazing at Excel, but couldn't use a database for anything. There are plenty of opportunities to combine financial and technical skills.

If you really want to stand out, learn how to implement AI and produce something productive. Every executive in America wants to tell their board they are using AI, but so far, it's almost all a pipe dream. There's serious money to be made by those who figure it out.
I got it as well.

I'm not telling my wife because she will order something online, "since we were going to spend it anyway".
I'm quite disappointed at the lack of use of the storm's given name: Fern.

Lord Cantore commands it.

The first four Mambos weren't much, but Mambo No. 5 was a banger
McMahon talked about this last week. He pointed out that the scheduling was done that way to increase LSU's NET ranking. LSU got up to 34, so it worked to a degree.

re: 403b and 403b Roth

I am not an expert by any means, but there are quite a few benefits to using Roth accounts that you may be missing. Since the Roth grows tax free, many people use it later in retirement. Subsequently, they have it invested aggressively well into retirement. Obviously, you can use Roth to avoid some taxes in early retirement, but if your traditional retirement plan is growing during that time, you may just be kicking the tax can down the road.

As far as it being an "acceptable Roth vehicle", if the investments available are adequate for you, then it should be fine.

Like I said earlier, I'm no expert, so hopefully others will help with your question.

More Fun Fact:

Nuss is older by one month.

Both were born in 2002.

Nuss in February and Finley in March.

Even funner fact:

Blake Shapen from Miss St was born in Jan 2001. He's a year older than Nuss and Diego Pavia
I've played around with it. It has some interesting features, but the issue with that type of software are the assumptions that you have to make to get the projections. People casually put in a rate of return that may be unrealistic and throw off all of the numbers.

The one software that looks really interesting is called Income Lab. It was designed by some mathmaticians and financial planners. It does an amazing job of projecting spend levels and allows for you to include life events like traveling, weddings, new cars, etc. The problem is that it is supposed to be used by only folks who use specific financial advisors. However, they let folks try it for a few months for a minimal fee.
I have found that the stick devices are decent but not great streamers. Mine randomly buffer or downgrade the resolution. On the other hand, the boxes (Apple and Roku Ultra) perform much better. Mine never have the above problems. Definitely get a better streaming device.
I have a BMW with laser headlights and European programming. This means they stay on bright, but turn off the area pointed toward another car. It really is cool to watch at night.

My second favorite is when the steering wheel shakes to warn you that you are drifting out of your lane. I turned it off in my vehicle, but left it on my wife's car.

I’ve had it on a BMW and a Lincoln and had to manually turn it off every time I started the car in both of them

There is a program called BimmerCode that allows one to configure BMWs to turn on and off various features. One is turning off the auto stop start (arse). It will also configure seat belt chimes, interior light color, pop up notifications, etc.

Alvin Dark

I came to add Alvin Dark. He played football, basketball, and baseball at LSU. In addition to his playing days, he was also a manager in the MLB for 13 seasons. I know it was a different era, but not many players did those things.
I pay someone. I am not paying for the mowing, I'm paying for more free time on the weekends.
It sounds like the ADs are getting in on the "create a rumor/get a raise" scheme that Jimmy Sexton has perfected.

Listened to blues guitar all of my life. There are too many great, soulful, interesting players to waste time on Joe B.

That said, I do enjoy his gear videos. You can tell he grew up in a music shop.
I spy a silver face Fender Twin Reverb. That's a monster amp of at least 100W (some are 135W). An interesting choice, as most people today use low-wattage amps at higher volumes.

You'll want to go to 12 South at some point. The girls will appreciate the shopping, and the guys can sit at the Tap Room or Bottle Cap. While you're there, eat at Buttermilk Ranch (best brunch ever), BarTaco, or Fondas. There are a few more great places on that stretch as well. It's peak gentrification, but it's a neat place if you've never been.

I work in healthcare, so I get the flu shot every year. Last year, I got the flu shot, and my older kid did as well. My wife and the other kid didn't. The wife and younger kid got a wicked case of the flu that the first kid and I didn't get. I know, csb, but everyone in our household is getting one this year.

What’s your rationale for formally putting it in his name?

Something to consider is protection from a judgment. Say your college kid owns and insures the car, gets in a wreck, and is sued. They won't have many assets for a lawsuit to target. Presumably, a 50 year old parent would be a juicier target for a lawsuit. But I'm not a lawyer, so ask an expert before swapping names on a title.
