NEW: Florida's Jon Sumrall on his and Lane Kiffin's offseason coaching moves: "Lane said we're going through the same thing. I said no we're not. You're leaving an SEC school. I'm leaving Tulane. If any university said I couldn't coach in the playoff, I don't think I would have taken the job."

Dude is trying to be a hardass, He would have left Tulane in October if LSU offered him

LSU also didn’t say he couldn’t coach. Ole Miss did

That doesn’t fit the smooth brain narrative

My impressions of Sumrall and Golding are that they like to hear themselves talk. They say things, almost scripted stories or cute analogies that they rehearsed 100 times in prep for questions they know are coming. The media and their fans eat it up of course. Good for them, it just comes off as disingenuous to me.

FWIW my comments aren’t related to Sumrall’s Kiffin piece, which was relatively harmless. I do think he’s full of crap that he’d have walked away from Florida if they’d told him he was needed immediately in Gainesville (which would have been reasonable) and couldn’t coach Tulane in the playoffs. But I understand why he says it. I’ve just found his rah rah tough guy schtick a little over the top since his introductory press conference at UF.

Re: Golding, I think he’s trying too hard to pander to the OM fans, when he’s got no skins on the wall. Again though I also get why he says what he does, it just comes off poorly IMO. I do think his comments on Kiffin today were classy, even if he did seem hyped up on speed. He was entertaining.

He might be a good coach, but the SEC is 50x harder than the joke of a schedule he faced at Tulane. Good luck.

And if Tulane told you you couldn’t, you couldn’t.

Guy comes off so cheesy to me.

I would’ve been bummed if LSU had hired him. Sounds like he wasn’t even in consideration though.

He keeps saying this and it’s the biggest flat out lie I’ve ever heard.

He’s getting his first chance at a P5 job.
Let him talk.

We’ll see where he is 3 years from now.

He did a good job at Tulane, he earned a shot… let’s see what he does with it

Sumrall is a try hard douche. He reminds me of the high school coach nobody liked.

If you actually listen to all of what he said, he was in no way "throwing shots" at Kiffin.

But don't let that stop you from spinning things. Its a ranter specialty.

His failure will be almost as sweet as Pete Golding's. Dude really thinks he's something and that he's going to win big at Florida with his little school mentality

He did a good job at Troy too. I think he’s got a lot of potential. We’ll see if it translates to a major program. This press conference has zero to do with that.

This is not the first time he made remarks like this. It’s okay to think this guy is a tool, some on this board even wanted him here.
