If anyone has been to cedar point, it’s amazing to me how the restraint systems on steel vengeance and skyhawk doesn’t have people flying out.

Also very unverified and rumor, the rider had been refused entry on other rides due to size.
If true, this is the same thing that happened in the Orlando tragedy. The workers were too scared to tell someone the couldn’t ride due to their weight.

According to the internet this is the first death since 2014, at SFOG anyway.

Do they not get sued for millions?

gotta grab onto something there in that situation
Basic physics. Force = mass x acceleration. Say the man weighs 200 lbs and the ride is moving 20 mph, you are in the neighborhood of 2600 foot pounds of kinetic energy. That's roughly the same as a .30-06 rifle round as it leaves the muzzle. You try to grab him and you break your arm immediately.
The other four injuries were from him bouncing off of people on the ride.

You forget. This is the OT where everyone has superhuman strength and is married to a 10.

I'm sure they have a pretty hefty insurance policy.

From the ride photo posted earlier, he looked like a big ole dude

True. The fact that we have a few people who know what B&M is and have knowledge of the safety harnesses for this ride is pretty impressive too.

Agreed. I had to google what B&M was.

Kid that jumped the barriers at Batman the ride?
That was rough

No, that was 2008. There was also a guy killed being hit in the head by a riders foot ages ago.
That's a more comprehensive list. My other search didn't list the Van, but did list the one in '14. So 5 in the last 25 years.
quote:
• October 12, 2026 (Goliath): A man died and four others were injured after falling from the Goliath roller coaster. Witnesses reported seeing the guest fall out of his seat while the ride was in motion.
• October 2023 (Park Property Transport): A 27-year-old Six Flags employee died after being ejected from a moving park cargo van. The vehicle, which lacked rear seats and seatbelts, was driving with an open sliding door when the accident occurred.
• June 2008 (Batman: The Ride): A 17-year-old guest was decapitated by the roller coaster after scaling two perimeter safety fences. He entered the restricted "no-access" zone underneath the ride to retrieve a lost hat and was struck by the train traveling at 50 mph.
• May 2002 (Batman: The Ride): A 56-year-old park groundskeeper was killed after entering the locked, restricted area under the coaster. He was struck in the head by the dangling legs of a 14-year-old passenger, who sustained leg injuries but survived.
Note: While some older timelines list a 2014 death of a 14-year-old girl following a breathing emergency at the Hurricane Harbor waterpark, official park and state safety incident records attribute the deaths above directly to physical ride operations and park grounds accidents.
That's a more comprehensive list. My other search didn't list the Van, but did list the one in '14. So 5 in the last 25 years.

Think this is gonna turn out to be a guy who was too big to safely ride this ride, plus a ride worker who just didn’t care enough to tell the guy no.

One of my good buddies was the director of PR at the park at the time. That was a nightmare.
