Like Nuss said more than 10 wins and with the 12 team playoff an appearance is a must.

Be minimum 10-2 and at least make the playoffs. That and not lose the first game of the season. Again. Especially to a mediocre USC team next year.

And a defense that will probably still be below SEC average.

Sure money bags will be happy to write a $70 million powerball buyout courtesy of LSU, hire the 1st $250m coach then ask for a 100% raise.
BK is here to stay for at least another 5 years even if he goes 6-6 for the next 4 seasons.
So have faith. He will get it done over the next 3 years.

Hoping for 9-3
8-4 7-5 is probably the reality with a weak defense.

9-3... It will be 2018. Second year starter Nuss will win the NC in 2025.

Same as every other year. At least 10 wins and a top 10 finish. In year 3 you should expect it to be closer to the top 5 than 10 and he should be in the hunt to make it to Atlanta in November.

Just keep winning 10 games and make a bowl and I am satisfied as a fan. I just want the boys to have fun out there.

What would you consider a successful season?
10+ wins regular season, making the playoffs. Beat Oklahoma at home. Ideally, we win game 1 of the season and the first playoff game, too.

anything beyond that would be gravy, but he'd have earned his pay if he does that.

Expectations for year 3 of Brian Kelly

National Championship

He's had enough time to recruit HS and portal players to make this run. If there are deficiencies on either side of the ball, it's on him.

Ed O and Les both won championships in year 3 (and admittedly had somewhat better circumstances when taking over) after strong recruiting to get the players that cemented those seasons.

If BK is better than either of those 2, you have to have higher expectations for him. You can't say the other two were garbage then not hold a better coach to a different standard, the pay reflects this as well.

Honestly last year and this year, from a roster perspective, were our best shots at a title.

Last year we are likely undefeated or 12-1 heading into the playoffs as #1 or #3 in the country with this coa hing staff. Our defense only needed to be top 60 to be a title contender last year and I have 100% confidence the 2024 coaching staff could've had them even better than that, likely into the 30-50 range.

If we don't win a title this year I don't see us competing for another one until 2026. I fully expect us to have a #5-15 offense this year, if that's the case we likely lose Nuss, 2-3 starting recievers, TE mason taylor, 4 starting offensive linemen, and RB Josh williams. So that means in 2025 we will likely be returning 2/11 offensive starters if our offense is as good as we expect it to be. Even if nuss comes back in 2025 he won't have basically any proven talent around him, new RB, new TE, 1-3 new recievers, 4 new offensive linemen. The defense In 2025 likely won't be a top 25 unit either.

2026 on the other hand will likely have a loaded offense with veteran recievers, linemen, RBs, TEs and a potentially 2nd year starting QB in byce underwood. Defense will also be loaded with experiened and much higher touted players with young 5 stars and top 50 players loading the bench.

We must absolutely be a playoff contender. The defense needs to look vastly improved to pair with another high octane offense.

You seem like the type to set realistic expectations

He is the 8th highest paid coach. The list is below of the top 10. The bold have been at their job for as long or longer than Kelly, those in Itallics have won a natty. #1 hasn't won a natty since 2018.

]1) Dabo Swinney, Clemson Tigers: $11.5 million

2) Kirby Smart, Georgia Bulldogs: $11.25 million[/i]

3) Steve Sarkisian, Texas: $10.3 million

4) Ryan Day, Ohio State Buckeyes: $10.2 million

5) Kalen DeBoer, Alabama Crimson Tide: $10 million

6) Lincoln Riley, USC Trojans: $10 million

7) Mike Norvell, Florida State Seminoles: $10 Million

8) Brian Kelly, LSU Tigers: $9.5 million

9) Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss Rebels: $9 million

10) Josh Heupel, Tennessee Volunteers: $9 million

For what he's paid, he better make the playoff at minimum this year.

I'd say that is reasonable.

I am a little concerned, though I think they should be able to make the playoffs and have a legitimate shot at playing for the SEC crown. However, I feel like the margin for error is razor thin considering what they are replacing on offense and the unknowns on defense.
