Everything else aside, the defensive playcall on the 2pt conversation is unacceptable

Even if you ignore all the other questionable things from last night, I just don't see how that's the call when they're on the 3. Completely leave the middle gap WIDE open?

It's shite like that that'll have you questioning Baker as long as he's here.

It had to be a busted play. Nothing else can explain this.

Trent Richardson would have run through that hole.

Coming out of a timeout makes it even more special

I have to assume one of the DTs was supposed to have A gap. They both went B gap.

Or maybe a DE was supposed to fill the A.

There is no way that was the call.

Good blocking by Kentucky. If we ran the same play, I doubt we could have made this hole

Richard Simmons could've found that hole.

That was totally obvious and completely pathetic.

Someone had to be out of position. The Kentucky QB probably couldn't believe his eyes.

6 will beat 4 10/10 for 3 yards

Whatever happened to the 4-3 and 3-4 with stud lb's? Our lb's look like safeties playing out of position.

If you know, you’re only rushing 4 players you should be prepared for the QB running in that situation. You have to stay with gap integrity in your rush lanes. I still don’t understand why nobody was spying the quarterback.

They should have brought a LB or Safety down, but what likely happened in retrospect is that it was on the players to adjust at that point on the play clock. Here’s why:

If you go back, they had that stupid arse 20 TE shite that we would have stuffed easily and then called TO. When they came out of the TO with a different package, we had to sub several guys back in for a base defense rather than Goal Line. We were given time to make the subs since they did, but that took us well beyond the point where the green dot could still receive any info from Baker.

There was no time to signal from the sidelines either. Our players got on and had to get in position and then had maybe 2 seconds before the snap. The players had to adjust there and it likely falls on Dottery that we didn’t because he got the green dot and sets the D as long as Weeks is out. This is where we missed Weeks being the green dot really badly. He likely sniffs this out and at least gets himself or someone else into that spot.

It was a smart gambit by Stein to do the play change there to try and create confusion. If we had a TO left, we 100% would have taken it to reset.

it is on BAKER we had TWo SAFETIES deep over the top at back of EZ. not needed. when ball was at the 3 yard line? where field is compressed helping the d?

unacceptable. play man press and jam hard where they cant get off LOS.

both safties shoulda been at the line. one spying, one rushing

had someone got in middle from line or lb on end he coulda ran off tackle.

you need the safeties there

I believe Stein never intended on running the first play. He would have called a TO if we didn’t. He wanted Lane to use his TO and then change the play and for LSU to not be able to call TO.

It worked beautifully.

Stein out coached Lane last night.

The original call was some form of Cover 2 man. You can tell by the shift when both backers went with their Man. With the back and TE in the backfield the linebackers are responsible for the A and B gap run fits.

When UK shifted I’m assuming the defense is supposed to check to a cover 0 OR the green dot communicates to the line that they are now responsible for both the A and B gaps to push thr QB wide.

Neither happened. The backers vacated the middle with their men and the line obviously had no clue that it happened.

Really poorly called and executed defense.

ETA: part of being an elite defense is constant communication amongst the players on the field. All 3 levels have to communicate and know what each on is doing. That happens with Weeks, but does not when he’s been hurt.

Baker has to figure out how to get his defense to operate without Weeks.

The play was called for the previous formation. Go back and watch. We had to run a different package on due to the change. We were well beyond the comms cutoff. It was on Dottery to see that and adjust at that point as we had that brief time before the snap to get set. He didn’t.

I guess it’s on Baker for not having him prepared for that moment, but Ole Myth fans complained that he was not good at this role for them. He was playing better when Weeks was healthy and he didn’t have this extra responsibility.

I think Weeks at least gets us adjusted there, but injuries and adjusting to them are part of the game.

ok. i will blame both then. yup. baker had to have him ready. we can put direct blame on dottery and subsequent blame on baker. fair enough.
