Had LSU played anyone other than bama in the championship game the debate in 2019 would be is 2019 LSU better than 1995 Nebraska. 2001 Miami or 2011 LSU.
2011 LSU and Bama would both be considered all time great teams had they not had to play each other that year.

Bama didn't have a majority of fans in the Superdome that night, but they made at least 99% of the noise, all game long. That game let me know Les Miles' days were numbered-- pathetic effort

top 20 offense
PPG is the only measure they were in the top 20. They were #36 in rushing yardage (decent, not great) and #108 in passing yardage (painfully inadequate). And so many of the points scored were the result of stellar defense and special teams play.

2006 LSU offense was one of the best ever at LSU, at least before 2019. Yet that team had two mindnumbingly poor offensive performances, vs Florida and Auburn. Hard to explain that

It depends.
Are you using the Jarrett Lee offense or the Justin Jefferson offense?

Why are people comparing ALABAMA'S DEFENSE THAT YEAR to the 2019 LSU defense? Do people not remember what our defenses looked like before the last 4 games of the year in 2019? Do people not remember what Vandy and Ole Miss did against us? Do you not remember Alabama? Do you not remember Texas or Florida? If this was a mid season game, LSU's 2011 run offense would have ran up and down the field vs LSU's 2019 defense.
Alabama/Saban had 4-5 weeks to plan for an LSU team they already played against and lost to.
LSU's 2011 defense gave up more than 11 points only 4 times that year and those 4 teams were 10-2 Arkansas (only losses Bama and LSU), 11-2 Oregon (only losses to LSU and 10-2 USC and won the Rose Bowl), 9-3 WVU (who won the Orange Bowl and scored 70 on Clemson), and Bama who scored 9 points AT HOME, and even with a second chance and their defense not letting LSU cross the 50 yard line, they only scored 21 points. They averaged 15 points over 2 games. All those teams had top offenses too. Not 2019 LSU good, but you can easily compare them, especially Oregon and WVU.
I can see it as a close match.

2019 would win comfortably. 2011 had a defense for the ages and an average offense (stats don’t tell this story; almost 9 quarters against Bama with only 9 points does).
2019 had an offense for the ages and a very good defense.

During the season, 2011 wins by a TD. At the end when all players were healthy, 2019 wins in a toss-up by 3. CEH would be the difference maker in game 2 if he stays healthy. As much as we hated Chavis, that Mustang package would absolutely be the equalizer.
2011 defense would flat out whip the 2019 OL and Burrow would be scrambling and throwing nothing but short passes. Clemson’s defense wasn’t nearly as good as 2011 and played in a weak arse ACC.2011 would keep the ball away and run the ball without question with that Oline. Like another poster said, that Dline would pressure Burrow and he isn’t running away from the 2 LB. Mathieu would be a difference maker because you had a slow arse TE in Moss and the Loston eliminates him. The secondary was fast and easily covers all three WR. Look at the corners, Nickel and safeties.
Brooks
Mathieu
Loston
Reid
Claiborne
Simon
All fast all fierce tacklers.

2019 would win solely because 2-Loss Les was leading the 2011 team.
As great as that 2011 defense was, they are not stopping the 2019 offense.

if 2011 tied against 2019 then that would mean 2011 bama is better than 2019 lsu
that’s retarded talk

Not really, 2011 didn't have an offense
Basing the 2011 offense off of one team that probably had one of the best defenses in college football history that year and a team that was built to stop the run like Alabama is idiotic. Nobody moved the ball on that Alabama defense. The 2011 LSU offense averaged over 35 ppg and beat just about everyone in the sec not named Alabama by an average of almost 30 ppg. LSU averaged around 400 yds per game offensively. So you can get out of here with that no offense bull shite.

2011 defense would run out of gas just like in the championship game eventually chasing Jets and Chase etc after the 11 offense goes 3 and out 10 times

2019 defense didn’t really have to try and wouldn’t you know they shut it down when it mattered most.

Depends on if Les put Jarrett Lee in or not

Neutral field? Why not just play at Tiger Stadium?

One thing that you need to consider too is that 2019 got better as a year progressed. I don't think anybody was beating 2019 at the end of the year. People keep talking about how Auburn was close but LSU would have blown them out if they played at the end of the year.

It would be a lot closer than 2019 LSU vs. Clemson. 2011 was the second-best LSU team of all time, IMO. They just ended their season in the most terrible way possible. 2019 won a close one against a mediocre Auburn team, so I could see 2011LSU hanging on for a while. I see something like a 26-20 victory for 2019.
