Al blew them off the field in 2011. Total humiliation that changed the course of the program for years. 2019 blows them out unless 2011 AL was the greatest of all Saban teams.

2019 LSU gave up 41 vs Bama, 37 vs Ole Miss and 38 against a BAD Vanderbilt team. To their credit, however Aranda's defense improved drastically the last five games.
2019 Bama and 2019 Ole Miss were much better offensively than 2011 LSU.
Vandy Game:
1 TD was a scoop and score
1 TD was a pick Six (Myles Brennan)
They scored 24 offensively, one of which was a 54 yards busted run play.
Vandy had 374 total yards (229 passing, 145 rushing)

Alabama didn't blow LSU off the field in 2011.
They played twice, the first game was basically a stalemate. Bama missed long field goals outside, and LSU wore them down late in the game and OT.
Game 2 was a slight tweak, both offensively and defensively by Saban. Offensively they were able to get some field goals, instead of being stuffed outside of that range. Defensively Alabama was able to adjust to Jefferson being the QB. They were able to get enough separation that LSU couldn't just keep pounding and hope to break through late.
Fwiw, I do think that's among the best of Saban's teams.
And more important to this matchup, I think 2011 Bama's defense was far better than 2019 LSU's.
2019 wasn't a complete team. It was the best offense ever, paired with one of the weaker performing LSU defenses we'd seen in a couple decades. I dont see any way that defense holds 2011 to under 20, like some have said.
I think if they played, the 2011 D makes the 2019 O look good but mortal, hold them in the 30's. I think the 2011 O gets into the high 20's, maybe 30's. Close matchup overall, Burrow makes a Burrow play late to win.

AL 21-0
Sorry but I was there. It was a blow out of epic proportions. AL ruled the Dome even though the game was in Louisiana

Did the 2011 team score every 90 seconds?
2019 says: How dare you try to compare us to anyone!

Are there a bunch of people in this thread that don't remember 2011? That is the greatest team ever to not win the title. Beat the Rose Bowl Champs, Orange Bowl Champs, Sugar Bowl Champs, and the National Champs while going undefeated in the SEC.
That defense was as good as it gets. It took Bama almost 2 full games plus overtime to score a touchdown. Don't let that final score fool you. They kicked 5 FGs and didn't score an actual touchdown until 4 minutes left. What Burrow was on offense, TM was on defense. It would be an amazing battle.
Ultimately 2019 would pull it out, but those acting like it would be a blowout are nuts.
Speaking X's and O's, Auburn held us to 19 pts in 2019 because they dropped everybody and still got great pressure with their elite D-Line.
2011 LSU had the deepest secondary of any college team I've seen in my lifetime, they had 2 elite pass rushers in Mingo & Montgomery, 2 stud tackles in Brockers and Logan, and 2 tackling machines in Minter and Baker. Not to mention that defense was able to rotate players all game and stay dominant. 2019 was not that good in pass defense despite wining the Joe Moore award. 2011 DL would absolutely be able to get pressure without relying on blitzes from the LBs or TM7 or Mo Claiborne. They would be able to run the Auburn blueprint but with a much better secondary and a better pass rush.
As unstoppable as Burrow was, he didn't face any defense remotely close to what 2011 LSU and Bama brought to the table.
quote:Some of you have really weak arguments. 2019 defense had a very average pass rush and run defense. The 2011 O-line bullied every team it played outside of Alabama. They would absolutely be able to move the ball on the ground with those road graders and stable of RBs.
The boundary corners alone would cripple an already incompetent passing game. 2019 by double digits. Easily.
At the end of it, I'd expect a 24-17 type win for 2019.

I’m not saying JL was any better but JJ was a terrible QB. He had 34 tds to 20 ints at LSU in 4 years. He had no leadership or field authority and he was an off the field Liability.
Game plan? lol. LSU had no game plan because we couldn’t complete a forward pass.

That, and people forget that teams could run the ball on 2019's defense... and 2011 could run on just about anyone. *If you say "they couldn't against Bama", you're forgetting we wore them down late in that first matchup. And 2019 LSU's defense was nowhere near as stout.
2011 also gets to play defense under their rules to be fair. So no more crosses over the middle lest you be snapped in half by Craig Liston or Eric Reid

you think Jefferson leading a Miles offense would score 29 pts on 2019 team....I say it would be more like 48-10. Burrow and Jefferson difference is waaaay different. Brady vs Miles is waaaaay different.

2019 would roll by 30. It may be close at half.
The 2011 team wouldn’t have scored 20 points. That offense was terrible.

At the very worst 19’ would move the ball at will and get close. 11’ would get the stops they needed from the 30 through the red zone. Cole Tracy would then smash field goals all day long on 4th down. The 11’ run game would be the only thing to worry about so DA would scheme everything to stop the run and do exactly what bama did. Make JJ beat you with his arm and there’s no chance in hell that would happen. 19’ corners and deep safety would stop any pass attack ole lesticles, krag, and stud could come up with.

Not really, 2019 comfortably

You seem to also be suffering from "21-0" syndrome. LSU scored 35.7 points/game in 2011. They had a top 20 offense. Since when is top 20 "terrible"???

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree with this! That game would be thisclose.

Man, I wish 2011 would have been able to close it out that season. It really was the greatest ever, to that point. The only team able to withstand that power was a damn strong Bama team, and we'd gone in and beat them on their home field in a mega-hyped night game. If Oklahoma St would have made that FG (and I'm not completely sold that he missed), we go scorched earth on their asses in the Superdome, and people really would be debating whether 2011 or 2019 was the best college football team of all time.
Oh, and just to play devil's advocate, not sure you want to get a rematch with a Saban team, ever. 2019 threw the kitchen sink at them, went completely insane in the first half to lead 33-13... and won by 5. Don't know about anyone else, but I was relieved when they lost to Auburn at the end of the year. There are some teams where you take the W, say thank you very much, and don't want any part of a rematch.

I don’t think 2019 played a defense anywhere near 2011 caliber. 2019 Clemson defense was good but they’re not in the same realm as 2011. I mean we’re talking about tGOAT offense vs. one tGOAT defenses plus incredible special teams. It would be fun as hell to watch. I think 2011 had more overall talent but the QB discrepancy is SO massive (obviously). If 2011 could pound the rock, chew up clock and keep the ball out of JB9 hands as much as possible, it’s a one score game with 2019 coming out on top.
Pretty wild having this discussion then thinking about the head coaching matchup of Les Miles vs Ed Orgeron. Not sure which is worse there
