A) Walker had an injury his senior year
B) Our OL this year is not ideal
C) This is a whole new roster and coaching staff trying to find each other
D) We don't want a Jamie Howard/Jarrett Lee situation

This is why Walker is redshirting this year. Starting him now would be throwing him to the wolves. A true freshman coming off an injury behind this OL is not how you want to start him off.

It will be Walker and whoever we have coming in. We will probably always grab someone from the portal now.

I dont expect this offense to ever be "elite" because Denbrock sucks

His top 10 offense last yr at Cincinnati tells me otherwise

You have absolutely no way of knowing this. We could fill tiger stadium with guys who were supposed to be "generational" talent and bombed.

Actually I’ll argue at this point that he should not be at LSU this year.

sadly, I agree

I allowed myself to get hyped up over the JDs capability - hadn't seen it myself, but I;m just a fan, not a qb analyst.

But I am also a realist - you cannot keep pissing down my back and convince me that my umbrella is malfunctioning.

Would love to be wrong - but I've given up on expecting anything more than barely mediocre qb play this year.

so keep going with the one who bombs every time - with no promise of improvement?

No, but Walker was not considered a “generational talent” by recruiting services. He was a composite 4 star. One of the big four had him as a five star, the other three a four star. Lower your expectations some and let the kid grow. It’s not fair to him to anoint him the savior before he takes a snap.

The QB won’t fix this boring offensive scheme

BINGO......when things aren't going well, the guy on the bench is always better - according to the fanboys....

Until Walker Howard is the QB, we get a couple of 5 star running backs, and Joe Brady becomes willing to leave his MVP watch list QB in Buffalo to come back here and run his offense again.

Enough of these coach’s bbq buddy hires that the rant loves but suck.

Based on what exactly? Practice? HS film? You sound ridiculous. The guy has not shown enough sample size in NCAA to make this type of claim. This is why this board is full retard when it comes to QB expectations.

Will he get there? I would think so, he's super talented. If it was tRant's decision though, he can already read defenses like Tom Brady and make Patrick Mahomes magician plays right now in NCAA. WHAT THE HELL IS BK THINKING NOT STARTING HIM? Tell Jamie Howard to go to hell.

Based on the fact that CBK has shown that he can put together a deep, experienced and mean OL that knows how to keep a pocket passer upright. Based on the fact that CBK has a formula for offensive linemen and that should start to manifest in the next 2 years. Couple that with the weapons that LSU always seems to have on the outside that ND doesn't have in droves, then I can easily see why a fan would be hyping up the crystal ball for Howard.

And what if he gets in there and the offense is not elite? Can we see him play against and SEC defense first?

Walker, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning: all would be mediocre in this offensive scheme. Get used to it.

Play him in 4 games this year, and RS him
Then give him and Nuss a chance to battle it out the rest of this year and next. Let JD take his skills somewhere else.

Am I? Walker is advanced in his ability to read defenses quickly. It’s not just about being able to make great throws (which he can). JD can’t read defenses quickly even with 30 plus starts. He just doesn’t have it.

The only reason Walker isn’t starting this year is because Jamie insisted on the RS, and I don’t blame him. Next year is a different animal.

Serious question, how do you know any of this to be true? Are you watching practices? Are you close friends with the Howard family? Are you basing all of this off of his recruiting rating and the fact that he went to STM?

Okay. He's making ridiculous claims that he can read defense amazingly based on 0 evidence on the field. He hasn't played to make claims like that. If you can't see the ridiculous hyperbole in his statements then I don't know what to tell you. Since you can play that narrative like that, I'll also throw some facts at you to knock you back down to Earth.

LSU is bad at developing their own QBs. Their recent successful QBs are always from other universities. We can't develop on our own and it hasn't been a thing since almost when Saban was last here. Not only this, BK's history is not known to be a QB whisperer. If you don't believe me go look at what he did at ND. He put mediocre after mediocre QB out on the field. Probably one of his better ones was Ian Book.

Still think he's going to immediately be Tom Brady his freshman year next year with no need for development? Have you even paid attention to how BK/Denbrock have handled our offense this year? Daniels is a big handicap but the coaches are doing the scheme no favors for the players.

If Walker is “developing” in this offense, I feel sorry for him. This system is not designed to make it easy for the QB to succeed.

This. I don't know how anyone can have optimism with BK running the show right now. He had similar problems at ND which is why he had difficulty developing QBs. He'd sometimes run 2 QB systems. Nothing he's doing at LSU is showing me he's willing to change something that's not going to work. He doesn't have to he's paid for 10 years here so he can have as much stubborn ego as he wants without consequence.

As long as he's willing to change it if it doesn't work that's all that matters. Will he? Guess we'll find out. Optimistic side to me says he will because he did it at ND which is why on the backend they had tons of success. I also don't think he likes losing probably more than most people it likely eats away at him.
