Don’t expect this LSU offense to be elite until Walker Howard is the QB

It’s just what it is. Walker is the future and anyone who keeps up with LSU knows it.

He is a generational talent at QB like Perkins is at LB, but his dad Jamie insisted that he redshirt this year. Next year Walker is the starter.

So Jamie calls the shots for LSU now? He's the one who got fed to the wolves early at LSU and you think LSU is going to do the same thing to his son next year? I'm fine by developing him on the field but you're going to have tons of growing pains if that's your decision at QB. I'd have to think if an opportunity in the portal presents itself you absolutely pursue it and let Howard sit #2 ready to takeover his RS Sophomore year. I think he'll be great for us but immediately starting him next year is going to have lots of highs and plenty of lows that I doubt the fanbase will be patient over.

You're probably right but I hope Nuss stays, too. I think he has shown potential.

It’s pretty widely known that a condition of Walker’s commitment was that he got a RS for his freshman year.

After that, all bets are off. And yes, Walker after his RS year will be one of, if not the best QB in the country

I do too, but if Nuss couldn’t beat out JD this year, he has no shot of beating out Walker next year, imo.

Eli Holstein went to Bama because he knew he couldn’t beat out Walker, just like he transferred HS teams to avoid competing with Walker.

How has Walker looked in practice? He is becoming quite a legend on this board.

It’s a little bit misleading because he hasn’t run with the 1s in practice, mostly the 3s.

It’s hard to grade one QB against another when they aren’t running with the same players.

That said, Walker has shown he reads defenses better/faster and has incredible pop on his throws compared to the others.

He also is more advanced than the others in terms of being an additional coach on the field as he can see and understand the defense faster than any of the others. Jamie has apparently done a great job teaching Walker how to quickly diagnose defenses. It makes a lot of sense after the way Jamie was thrown into the fire too early at LSU.

He's going to be good but you're setting yourself up for massive disappointment if you think he's coming into a starting role in the SEC next year immediately being all-world.

Stupidity like this is why tRant's favorite QB is whoever the backup is. They come in, the next backup is the favorite and so on. Unrealistic expectations. Even all-world QBs take years to develop see Joe Burrow.

How about you let the guy throw a football in an actual NCAA game before you anoint him as LSU's next god QB? More than likely if he ends up starter next year you're getting tons of growing pains. Lots of highs and plenty lows to go with it.

Or see how Saban plays Milroe and the guy lights it up. How many other freshmen or RS freshman QBs has Saban played?
You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Light it up? He played well but he also made tons of mistakes in that game. Like I said, plenty of highs to go with the lows.

Comparing exception situations doesn't mean it's the norm in the SEC. You can count the freshman/youngs QBs who have come into the SEC and played well on one hand and they're generally on Bama's team which isn't a coincidence.

Are you arguing to start JD or Nuss (who couldn’t beat out JD) next year over Walker? That is asinine.

Daniels is QB1 next season too.

Then we are fricked and Walker hits the portal. JD has not progressed and won’t. JD should not be at LSU next year at all.

Actually I’ll argue at this point that he should not be at LSU this year.

No, I'm saying you're being obtuse if you think Howard can just stroll right into the SEC next year and push LSU to a 10+ win season operating the offense. Not because he lacks talent but because he needs development like any other QB.

It has nothing to do with JD or Nuss. LSU can realistically get a good QB if one presents themselves in the portal. If JD/Nuss transfer which they probably will you have Howard backing him up who gets his time in garbage opportunities and also injuries.

Am I? Walker is advanced in his ability to read defenses quickly. It’s not just about being able to make great throws (which he can). JD can’t read defenses quickly even with 30 plus starts. He just doesn’t have it.

The only reason Walker isn’t starting this year is because Jamie insisted on the RS, and I don’t blame him. Next year is a different animal.

Some great QB can do it in their true freshmen year, then why Walker cannot do it after a redshirt year? He gets to practice all year, work out, play in 4 games, learn the play book, etc.

Those some true freshmen QB I am referring to are Johnny Manziel (Won Heisman), Jameis Winston (Won Natty & Heisman), Michael Vick (awesome year), JT Barrett (great year).

Not saying Walker Howard will be good as those guys, but they were true freshmen and he will be a 2nd year guy next year, with a great pedigree, so he can do well in his 2nd year.

I’m gonna get a head start and say we should start whoever comes in next who ever that may be.
