Who would pay taxes to live in a 3rd world shithole city like Philly?
Posted on 10/8/26 at 10:29 am to cubsfan5150
Not right now, but when I lived in Birmingham, the city and county both charged income tax
Posted on 10/8/26 at 10:30 am to cubsfan5150
Yeah, these drug infested homeless blue city shitholes charge income tax.

Not the worst way to spend it tbh

Where I live doesn’t but the city I work in does. They scalp me for 1% I believe.

Birmingham occupational tax is 1% but most of the metro population and the businesses are outside the city limits. (1.2 million vs 200K)

Preschool thing is cool and allows people to get back into the workforce earlier in their child's lives. I could see economic benefit from it.
The homeless thing feeds the massive homeless issue they have - literally and figuratively. It's homeless person Mecca because they are so coddled. I bet less than 1% of their homeless are actually from Portland.

A work colleague that resides in Tennessee did a three month stint inside the city of Detroit. He couldn’t believe the taxes the city took out of his check. He rolled it back up the chain and had the company reimburse him I believe through non-taxable per diem to make up for it.

Like Muskegon Michigan and Parkersburg West Virginia?

Look no further than California, where Gavin Newsome first enacted his "10 year plan to end homelessness in SF" in 2004. 22 years later and they're spending more taxpayer money than ever and the problem has never been worse.
It all makes sense when you accept that THEY DON'T WANT TO CURE HOMELESSNESS. It's a massive graft that they want to keep going. The homeless industrial complex is very big business.

You tell me only 25% waste for the government (1% out of 4%) I’d say they are doing pretty well

Congrats to both on the tax fraud

Opposite side of that - my brother in law worked in NYC for a PE firm for a while and negotiated to keep his job remotely when he moved to Tennessee. They didn't adjust his pay for taxes and COL and he was rollllllling in money in Tennessee for a while.
They had to designate some work space in Tennessee as his "office" in order to avoid NY taxes, because they still try to come after remote workers.

Wonder what sort of enforcement muscle the City of Detroit has for that.

It's not just waste, that 1% causes a metric shite ton of other issues for the city. The homeless shite has caused businesses to leave, homes to crater in value, tourism to be negatively impacted, etc.
It's not like they're pouring 1% into a green space no one uses.

So, rural people in a state should foot the extra costs of a large urban areas instead of the people making much higher salaries living in those areas?
Posted on 10/8/26 at 10:46 am to cubsfan5150
They collect at traffic court. If you have a job, your fine will be $500, the guy in pajamas will get a $50 fine with 6 months to pay

I mean, they probably won’t get caught, but this shite is not hard at all to find. It’s just overall audit roulette.
If they get audited, they’ll get caught.
And these cities audit way more taxpayers than you would probably think

Mingo, the arbiter on morality AND government overreach.
