Who is “they”? The CFP committee is a different entity from the NCAA, SEC, media, etc. That doesn’t prove collusion. You’d actually have to prove collusion and that’s my point. They could wiggle out of it by pointing to a subjective metric as their justification.

Colluding to exclude the team they play on is causing them irreparable harm.

ETA and yes I'm aware that he didn't know he could go back at the time, but just pointing out that by the letter of the law according to sec rules now, he still didn't remove his name.

I understand that, but that also applies to the Notre Dame transfer, Junior Tuihalamaka, who LSU is expecting to be eligible in the same way that Cole Hutson is expected to be. He also entered the draft and went undrafted and to at least one mini-camp tryout.

I am also confused as to why that seems to be flying under the radar based on the wording of the statement.

I can't figure out if you're missing my point or being obtuse.

In a future lawsuit, anything that was discussed in the playoff committee would be open to discovery. So any reason for excluding LSU that had anything at all to do with a player protected by a court order would be a massive liability.

I didn't realize that, I knew he got hurt at pro day so assumed he pulled out. Fair enough, then by the ruling he and hutson should both be ineligible.

I double-checked, and I think you are correct that he did not go to any mini-camp tryouts, but he also did not withdraw his name from the draft even though he went undrafted.

No, I understand. I just think you are being idealistic to assume they're going to have such conversations in a way that there is discoverable evidence to that point. They can leave LSU out with a wink and a nod and with conversations in private. These are not dumb people - they're not going to put collusion in big bold letters into the minutes of their meeting. If they want to leave LSU out, they will. And they'll have a defensible reason. That is - you have to admit - at least a very plausible scenario.

Every single NCAA athlete since 2018 has been granted 5 years except these men and women. Why is that? Why were they singled out?

They got 5 years to play 4, not 5 years to play 5.

A player like Wright played all 4 years, so eligibility exhausted under old rules.

I didn’t think the SEC was dumb enough to go out and say what they said either. They’ve now entered the crosshairs of the courts.

The George Carlin quote about take the average person’s intelligence, that means half the people are dumber than that. Or something along those lines get proved true everyday .

The SEC’s statement and rules are contradictory. Every player that’s in question entered the draft and none of them withdrew their names. So none should actually be eligible. It’s the SEC picking winners and losers.

Why didn’t they ignore the court order on Chambliss? The NCAA still says he’s ineligible. If this injunction goes through this makes the SEC look as weak as the NCAA.

Somehow I don’t think that’s what they were going for with that statement but here we are. If the injunction is granted they will be powerless to stop LSU after huffing and puffing about they were going to draw a line in the sand and punish ANY school (to the point of bankrupting the football program) who uses an a player THEY deem ineligible.

Why do people keep saying this stupid crap? If any entity is named in the suit like the SEC or CFP or NCAA, part of the suit says you can't punish the player, the institutions, or the coaches, etc.. Teams of lawyers are looking over all of this. They aren't missing something that obvious.

Nope. With the Covid years they had 5 to play 5.

I 1000% agree with you. My comments are about CFP committee specifically. SEC likely cannot punish LSU without having a massive legal battle on their hands, if the injunction is granted.

Are we pretending that starting QB's with multi-million dollar revenue sharing and NIL deals aren't professional players? QB's at most high profile programs are making more per year than the majority of players on NFL rosters.

The rule should apply to teams competing with players ruled ineligible by the NCAA

On what grounds? The 5 for 5 rule technically was not put in until after these guys had finished the eligibility that they signed up for I. 2022 when they were freshman. Yeah it sucks but they really have no standing

I'm sorry but our justice system is not going to look favorably on a bunch of rich powerful people conspiring to keep someone with an employable skill from seeking and enjoying employment.

The toothpaste can't be put back in the tube. This is no longer a club where preferred members get free tuition. This is now a business and only a severe realignment to reestablish structured and protected amateurism will fix it.

What about the 2022 players who did not enter the draft or withdrew and are still eligible?

The CFP is it's own LLC and operated with a board so they can propose, approve, implement whatever rules they want.

They would be smart to ban school from participating that roster a pro player. That gives more strength to keeping college, college.
