Curious on your thoughts…

Brennan enters transfers portal, comes back, & no one seemed to be upset. He opts out or rather “walks away” (to some quit) and yet is loved by the fan base.

Chase, Stingley, and others opt and receive backlash. Boutte thought about leaving, has not opted out, yet some crucify him.

What’s the difference? Why is there a double standard?

"walking away from football" and opting out are very different.

Chase, Stingley, and others walked away (as starters) from LSU Football for the NFL. Brennan is walking away from a role as a back up to move on with his life.

Plenty of people supported Chase's decision as logical as he wasn't going to improve his stock and he would only risk serious injury. Many also supported Stingley too. There was speculation that he wasn't seriously injured and that didn't sit well with fans who believed that.

Because deep down they know that Brennan has never been a difference maker for the team

There seems to be plenty of backlash against Max. You know, the starting QB1 from last year. You already forgot?

I think the main difference is that Max transferred to the enemy (see Ricks) and Brennan is not going to ever play against LSU .

I think on some level even his strongest supporters realize that Brennan leaving barely impacts the quality of the team.

Myles graduated and was beat out by two players.

I also don’t fault Chase and Stingley for opting out. They saw the issues inside the building and made business decisions. I honestly don’t think it would’ve made a world of difference.

Boutte would’ve been a different case if he chose the Ricks route and chased a bigger bag.

Is there a Bizarro TD that I don't know about?

One spent 6 years trying to be a starter and walked away when he realized it would never happen.

Others were starters and, in some cases, All-Americans and chose to opt out or transfer.

Personally, it's not my place to judge decisions these athletes make when they have millions of dollars on the line. But Brennan's situation and a guy like Chase are two totally different scenarios.

This is the difference. MB is essentially retiring from football. The opt out players aren't.

Once you have graduated you have fulfilled your obligation.

Your questions assumes that the same people feel differently per player. Some may feel that way, but I'd think most are mixed. Brennan went thru a lot of shite that was out of his control. MB also just played football for fun. It wasn't his #1 goal. He also wasn't going to start so it doesn't really hurt the team. Chase supposedly was facing suspension and didn't want to hurt his draft stock. Sting was legit injured with a foot issue his last 2 years.

This was purely about money. He was also flirting with Bama which is automatic heat from fans.

1. Brennan was on the team for 5 years. If you don’t want to be a backup QB for a 6th season, I’m ok with it. He has a ring. He has the life experience. He has a degree. He doesn’t owe us over a half a decade.

2. Stingley didn’t opt out. But I don’t hate him or Chase. I personally think players should be able to petition the NFL to enter the draft early on a case by case basis.

3. Brennan walked away from the Game, Boutte was flirting with transfering to a divisional rival. I don’t hate Boutte either but it’s different.

The difference is Brennan had worked and gone through the drills for six years for his dream.
Each time he was either beaten out or injured, preventing him from attaining his goal.
The clock was down to the final seconds, and he was still third team.
Enough! It wasn't going to happen. He didn't quit he was beaten out, again.
Maybe when he has some time off to reflect, recharge his batteries, he may change his mind and make another attempt.
I heard one of the talking heads say he had contacts from coaches who want to contact Brennan.
I wish him the best.

I don't fault any of the players for leaving. It's a business decision.
For the fans? Ha!
This board has proven repeatedly how much fans care about players.

Many have tried to make a mountain out of this mole hill since yesterday, but I think it boils down to this.

Chase, Stingley, etc., were FAR more valuable to the team than Myles. Therefore, people got upset because of the importance of their abilities on the field.

But some of y'all can make it about something that it's likely not.

I mean, if Joe had bailed before the NC season, do you not think there wouldn't have been a backlash there?
