Chase, Stingley, and others walked away (as starters) from LSU Football for the NFL. Brennan is walking away from a role as a back up to move on with his life.

Both are walking away to move on with their life. One just happens to move onto a professional football career.

He was here a long time. He didn’t transfer when Burrow was brought in. The guys you mentioned were starters. He attempted to come back after two season ending injuries. He isn’t preserving himself for any other teams or the NFL. He gave everything he had to LSU and now he no longer has it in him to play. I appreciate his time at LSU. I also don’t hate the opt outs. I just respect what Brennan did on a different level.

Chase opted out before the season started. Can't fault him for that, it wasn't like he waited a few games into the season and then quit like others.

Lol, you can't see a difference in the best player at his position deciding to either not play or play for a division rival after a year or 2 with the program vs a guy giving up football altogether in his last year of eligibility after hanging in for 5 years, because he wasn't good enough to even be the backup? Use that big brain of yours.

Curious on your thoughts…

Brennan enters transfers portal, comes back, & no one seemed to be upset. He opts out or rather “walks away” (to some quit) and yet is loved by the fan base.

Chase, Stingley, and others opt and receive backlash. Boutte thought about leaving, has not opted out, yet some crucify him.

What’s the difference? Why is there a double standard?

The obvious difference is that Brennan isn't leaving to better his football career...thinking of himself. He's leaving because he can't get it done, and he's stepping aside from the game altogether. He isn't harming the team.

Those other guys opted out to benefit their career at the expense of the team. The team was harmed.

It's really apples and oranges to anyone who isn't dumb.

Having said that, there is still room for criticism of Brennan. By all accounts, he didn't put in the work in the offseason. And, this is after he injured himself off the field last offseason.

Right

It’s not quitting tho if you’ve been here longer and aren’t any good, though.

Revisionist history. Chase and Stingley were crucified. It was people here saying both Marshall and D. Smith should be taken ahead of Chase in the draft and Stingley should be a second rounder.

okay.. guess I should've been more specific and said "move on with his life outside of football".

You knew what I meant. There is a difference between moving on from LSU to further your football career & moving on from LSU bc you no longer want to play football.

Well the obvious answer is because he’s white. That’s the answer you want, right Ryan C?

If you have to ask this, there's no way you're actually open to a discussion of it.

If you're implying race like the dumb arse above you, then you're an idiot too.

Nussmeier got a good bit of grief from fanbase for not playing (opting out) of the bowl game to save his redshirt. Max Johnson is probably hated as equally as Eli Ricks & more than Stingley, Chase, Marshall, etc.

Brennan is a good kid who likes to hunt and fish and listen to good old country music instead of rap while wearing gold chains and saggy pants

When it all boils down to it, Brennan's quitting helps the team by allowing the coaches to concentrate on the other two candidates and their improvement.

The others quit to help themselves.
