Not keeping Corey Raymond on staff was his biggest mistake

I heard Kelly is gonna bring O back as DL coach.

It's true, during his first year he made LSU literally Notre Dame light with coaches, analysts, and support staff. He finally figured out this past hiring session that hiring his buddies and only those with direct or indirect ties to the Catholics of South Bend wasn't going to cut it. He finally decided to go and grab the best he could find available for each staffer of need after having a little fire under his arse from Woodward.

Scott Woodward owns some blame for this too. As BK‘s boss and someone with enough history to know better, he should have forced the issue more
Woodward doesn’t know anything about football. He’s a lobbyist by trade. He’s good at raising and spending other people’s money

I think we would have had our 2nd Heisman winning, title winning qb in a 4 year span.

He’s an idiot if he didn’t know that.

We literally all knew that but cool

CBK’s biggest mistake is not having physical dawgs on the team
Especially defense
Especially defense

He set the program back a few years with that mistake
Agreed, but he also made the program leap forward with that abysmal Coach O roster

That wasn’t it all…he just hired people without the talent level required. Kids don’t give a shite where the coach’s hometown is at all…can you coach? When they do exactly what the coach says and they get their arse kicked they start to wonder how good he is. That’s the end.
He’s pandered to the south enough…and stop doing the fricking L hand gesture. STOP.
as usual, you sound like a stupid frick....stick to physics and being a florida fan since that is where your boy is now.

We had the worst fricking defense in LSU history a-hole. WTF were you watching?

I always laughed at people here on the rant that Shite on corey raymond and his lack of production at florida.

wtf does that have to do with you being a dumbass and complaining about him holding up the L?
the same coaching staff in 22 had the defense looking good, point is things happen. on paper it was a good staff. but he also realized it was bad and cut ties after just 2 years.
like i said...go be a florida fan...your kid is there. You can give dumbass opinions about them like you have about LSU for the last decade.

His initial defensive hires were awful. He set the program back a few years with that mistake and likely cost LSU a natty run with JD5
Huge mistake, as ST's have been a disaster!

He had a rough couple years recruiting, our DBs didn't look great, but he was always angling for more money. He's a really good coach, but I think a year or two apart was good for both parties.
Right. He leveraged leaving so much that it hurt his own recruiting, but he kept getting raises and kept doing it. His bluff was called, he left, then realized the grass wasn’t greener:

BK is a good coach but his weakness is self evaluation of his own team.(I would lump the OP's quote about hiring the wrong coaches in with this.) Its why we struggle in week 1 every year. And it takes half a season to figure out what we do well and what we dont, who should be starting and who shouldnt , etc. Think about how he started out not playing Weeks and never can figure out H.Perkins, How he thought our offensive line was going to be able to push people around and run the ball last year. The self scouting is lacking.

That's true. I am glad Kelly was willing to admit that.
I do think that most head coaches will hire other coaches most familiar to them, so this usually means coaches that they have worked with previously.
Hopefully, since BK has now been here a few years, he will get the coaches here who can best recruit the talent needed to win big.
Also, his evaluations of players like Perkins and others could have been better.

He could’ve hired 100 Bill Walshes and Bill Belichick and wasn’t doing shite with that roster
Seriously? No doubt there were depth issues, but there was talent on both sides of the ball and some talented freshmen.
